In the United States people sometimes go camping for vacation. Instead of staying at modern hotels and restaurants, they live in the woods and do everything for themselves for a few days to relax.

When you are camping, you make all of your own food. It is rather like a large, many-day picnic. Barbeques (烤肉架) are very common while camping. You can bring meat and vegetables to the camp. To make a fire, you can find or bring your own wood and light it with a lighter (打火机).

Remember to put stones around the fire so that it won't get too big and dangerous! When the fire is ready, you can cook food over it. Besides meat and vegetables, you can also cook marshmallows (果酱软糖) with the fire.

Children really like this activity at night. The whole family sit around the fire, eat marshmallows, and drink hot chocolate - especially when it is cold outside! Everyone can sing camping songs and dance together.

Camping is a fun activity for the family to do. Vacation does not have to mean going to visit faraway places, it could be as simple as setting up a tent in a nearby forest!

And there were no big hotels like the ones today. Now things have changed. Lots of nice big hotels have been built in recent（最近的）years. However, the nice scenery in Hawaii hasn’t changed much. In the morning, many visitors often take a walk along the water in. At night, they get together to hold parties, chatting and dancing.

Ten years ago, my husband and I took a summer holiday in Corfu, Greece (希腊).

On our last night, we wanted to get away from other tourists. So we put our best clothes on and set off at 7:30. Then we walked out of the town.

30 minutes later, we arrived at a good-looking restaurant full of local people. So we entered it and found an empty table. The people on the next table had the most delicious looking food. There were seafood, meat, salad, and everything. We decided to order the same. A lovely, smiling old lady came over to us but she didn’t speak English. So my husband just pointed to the food on the next table. Happily, she understood and brought us mountains of wonderful food. What a great time!

Finally, when we asked to pay our bill, the old lady just smiled. We were told it was free, because it was the lady’s birthday party and she was very happy we could join them.

How embarrassing, but how lovely. They were so kind to us, complete strangers.

How are you? I am Emily from Melbourne, Australia. I am excited about Christmas. What about you? Let me tell you how we celebrate Christmas.

In Australia, Christmas comes in the middle of the summer holidays. Australians hang (挂) wreaths on their front doors and decorate (装饰) their houses and gardens with Christmas trees and lights. They also decorate their houses with Christmas Bush, a native Australian tree with small green leaves and red flowers.

Carols by Candlelight is held every year on Christmas Eve. Thousands of people meet in different cities to sing their favorite Christmas songs. You can also watch it on TV.

People eat the Christmas meal at lunch time on a beach. Most people have a cold Christmas meal, or a barbecue with seafood such as prawns and lobsters along with the traditional English food. Other families have a picnic on the beach.

When Santa Claus gets to Australia, he gives reindeer (驯鹿) a rest and uses kangaroos. At many beaches, Santa Claus arrives on a surfboard. He also changes his clothes for less hot ones.
