John is a schoolboy. He was good at his lessons. But he started to miss his lessons about two weeks ago. Soon, his parents got a call from the school.

At last, John’s parents found him in an Internet bar（网吧）. He went there to play computer games. His parents felt sad. Now they are taking the son to visit his grandfather.

His grandfather is a farmer. He grows crops（庄稼）, vegetables and many other things. He walks with his grandson in the fields（田地）, looking at the crops. “Everything has its time. I grow every crop—each in its own season, because I don’t want to get nothing in autumn.” He stops and looks at his grandson. “For you, it’s the same.” he says. “I don’t want you to be a man missing the season for growing.”

John learns a good lesson from his grandfather.

Cheng Lin is a bus driver. He has driven from Luotian to Wuqiao Nan Station in Chongqing for many years. There are many left-behind children along the route (路线)—they go to school in the city on Sundays and come back to the village on Fridays. Mr. Cheng knows the importance of his role on their way to and from school, so he pays a lot of attention to them.

A boy who is in Grade 9, goes to school by himself. He lives with his grandmother because his parents work in another city and seldom come back. Mr. Cheng cares about him a lot. Cheng and the boy have developed a secret code. If the boy needs to take the bus, and the driver notices a schoolbag hanging outside the door of an old house, he will stop and honk (按喇叭). Soon, the boy rushes outside, carries the schoolbag and gets on the bus.

The boy’s parents were deeply moved by the driver’s kindness. “We are glad to see someone is taking care of our child. We are very thankful to Mr. Cheng,” said the father.

Mr. Cheng’s story is well-known and he is praised as a good driver. He says it’s just a little thing and that he will continue doing it.

Students are usually encouraged to share housework in their holidays. They are usually asked to cook meals, wash dishes, sweep the floor and so on. But a college student from Yunnan Province collected more than 350 kilograms of firewood in total for his grandparents before his school started in February, 2024.

Fu Tian, a 19-year-old college student, spent his winter holiday at his grandparents’ rural home in Yanxi village, Zhenxiong County. In the final days of the holiday, he went to the woods about a kilometer away from his grandparents’ home at eight o’clock in the morning to co llect firewood. And he would not return home before six o’clock in the afternoon. He did this in order to relieve (减轻) the stress of his grandparents. Fu said, “The basket carried not only firewood, but also my special love for my grandparents. I can do nothing but prepare enough firewood for my grandparents to use until summer comes.”

In addition to helping his grandparents collect wood and do farm work, he also bought medicine and new shoes for them in town.

What he did is a good example for us. Let’s learn from him and take action together.
