Have you ever been to Australia? Do you know the Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous landmarks (地标)? This summer holiday, I got the chance to visit it and find out what makes this building so great!
As our guide told us, the Sydney Opera House was built with a kind of self-cleaning material that is very rare even today.
First, we visited the Drama Hall. We learned about the designer of the Sydney Opera House-Danish architect (建筑师) Joan Utzon. He was the winner of an international design competition. However, he designed the house according to his own tastes, which caused several problems. The project was completed 10 years late. Utzon didn’t get to see the house after it was built.
Then, we visited Joan Sutherland Theatre. The theatre was refurbished (翻新) last year with new high-tech equipment. There was a rehearsal (排练) that day, so we could hear the beautiful sound of the orchestra (管弦乐队). Finally, we arrived at the largest theatre-Concert Hall. It has hosted many kinds of performances, from classical to rock music. A few years ago, a sports event was even held there.
Before we finished the tour, the guide told us the rest of Utzon’s story. In 1966, Utzon had an argument with the government and refused to give in. He had to leave the country. It was a hard time in his life. But many years later, people understood him and saw the building as a masterpiece.
From this tour, I learned that the opera house is not only a famous building, but a carrier of history and culture.

What do we do when we go camping? First, we think of a plan. We take food, clothes, a knife, and the things for cooking and eating. We take things to keep us away from insects (昆虫) and the sun. Then we put everything into the car and we drive to the woods. We look for a good place for campers (露营者) and our tent (帐篷). The place should have a lot of air. This will keep some insects away. High land with water on both sides of it is good. Then we put up our tent. We put everything into the tent, and we are ready for fun. We can swim in the lake, walk in the woods, climb a mountain, row a boat, or go fishing. In the evening we come back to the tent. We build a big fire because it can keep the insects away. We sit around the fire and talk. We may tell interesting stories or we may sing songs. At night we lie down on the grass. We can look up at the stars. It is a busy day, so we try to go to sleep early. Everything is dark. Everything is quiet. We hope we won’t hear music from the radio in the next tent. We hope it won’t rain.

I spent my weekend in Harbin with my cousin, my uncle and my aunt. We arrived in Harbin at about 10: 00 on Saturday morning. A taxi(出租车) driver drove us to the Central Avenue from the train station. It is a long street with many old houses. We had a lot of delicious food and took many photos there.
That evening, we lived in the polar bear (北极熊) hotel. I was really impressed by the hotel. It’s the world’s first polar bear hotel. Visitors can see the animals in their own rooms at all times. How exciting!
The next day, we got up at 7: 30 am. After spending about an hour watching polar bears and another thirty minutes having breakfast, we started our trip in the Harbin Polar Park. My favorite was the shows from polar animals like sea lions and polar bears.
Two days was short for us to learn about Harbin. Next time we will stay there for more days.
