Studying at a girls’ school, we seldom see boys. But in September, we got a chance to dance and talk with boys.

In the morning, all of the girls discussed this activity. But when the boys came, we stopped at once. After a welcome speech, the first activity took place: find a boy partner and learn five things about each other.

At first, the situation was so strange that nobody moved. Gradually, some people started talking.

“Would you like to be my partner?” the boy next to me said.

“Sure,” I replied.

We stood together and asked each other questions like “What’s your name?” after we took the first step, the rest was easier.

To my surprise, we had a lot of interests in common. We both like British singer Ed Sheeran. Also, English is our favorite subject.

The most exciting part was dancing. The teacher taught boys and girls separately (分别地), we all smiled and studied hard. The lesson didn’t last long, as we had to practice with our partners.

To be honest, it was my first time to hold a boy’s hands. I made many mistakes even with the simplest steps, but my partner never blamed me.

My hands got sweaty (出汗), my partner said, “Don’t be nervous. I will lead you.” his palms were big and warm, I began to calm down and enjoy dancing.

At the dance, we built good relationships with the boys and our teachers encouraged to do so. I really like this type of activity.

Every year, more than 2,600 students arrive in Britain. We ask some new students what they like best about their new lives and what’s different from home.

Jarek, Poland

I don’t know anybody from Poland here, but I’ m lucky because the English boy next door is very friendly and kind. We are in the same class! I like teachers here. At home, the teachers seem a bit strict and serious.
There are a lot of rules, too. Here, teachers are patient and don’t give much homework. We students go out of school and buy pizza or burgers at lunchtime. We can’t do that in Poland.

Zinah, India

It’s too cold here! I hate doing sports, especially outside in winter. The teacher here is very serious about sports. I prefer science and maths. I love the maths class because the teacher is really funny, just like my maths teacher in India. The school is so big and some students seem unfriendly, I’m from a small village school, I think it’s hard to communicate with them.

       Daisy & Luck, the USA
My sister and I like living here. It’s cool! My sister loves the British accent(口音). Everybody here is very polite. But we don’t understand all your strange words—we say “yard” not “garden”, and “apartment” not “flat”. The food is better here. There are Chinese, Indian and Thai foods. At home we eat too much fast food.
