The Inside of the World

When I was a very little boy, I was always asking questions.

One day when I was walking with my nurse along the city street, I asked, "Jane what's under the street? ""Oh,   just dirt（尘土）," she replied．" And what is under the dirt? Oh, more dirt. " she replied.

【小题1】.So I asked again, "Well, what's under that? “Oh, nothing﹣I don't know﹣why are you always asking so many questions? "she asked.

I knew there must be something under that.【小题2】I also heard that Chinese lived on the other side of the world, head down, I wanted to find out if that was true.

【小题3】, down, down, down. till I came through on the other side, and then I would know.

I was a very little boy, you see. With a small shovel（铁锹）, I started a hole in the backyard behind the grapevines（葡萄藤）. No one knew what I was doing.【小题4】.

Then one evening my father asked, "What's that hole in the backyard? " 【小题5】.He didn't laugh when I told him,   but he asked me if I knew how far I would have to dig.

I hadn't dug through the world, but I did know how far it was.

A great festival for the Chinese takes place on Chinese lunar August 15th. 【小题1】 In 2022, the Mid-Autumn Festival fell on October 1st. As a time for families together, the Mid-Autumn Festival had its typical food—the mooncake which is round and delicious. 【小题2】

Long ago there was a king in China who was very cruel to the people and the country couldn’t go well. 【小题3】 So they wrote notes telling about the meeting place and time and put them into cakes. On August 15th, every person was told to buy cakes. When they ate cakes, they found notes. So they got together to make a sudden attack (进攻) on the king. From then on, the Chinese people celebrated on August 15th. 【小题4】

When the Mid-Autumn Festival is near, shop owners decorate their shop windows beautifully with pictures of ancient Chinese ladies. People go to buy many kinds of mooncakes. 【小题5】

On the evening of the day, people and their family have a big meal. After it, they eat mooncakes and watch the fullest and brightest moon.

Once there was a woman named Patty living in a small village. One day, she milked her cow and had two full pails(桶) of fresh milk. She never got so much milk at a time, so she decided to sell it at the market. She put the nails of milk on both ends of a stick, carried it on her shoulder(肩膀) and set off to the market. As she walked to the market, her mind began to wander a bit. On her way, she kept thinking about the money she would make from selling the milk. Then she thought about what she would do with that money.

She was talking to herself and said, “Once I get the money, I’ll buy some chickens. The chickens will lay eggs and I will get more chickens. They’ll all lay eggs, and I will sell the eggs for more money. Someday, I’ll buy a house on the hill. ” She was excited about the thoughts of becoming rich and having a better life.

With these happy thoughts, she walked more excitedly. As she almost got to the market, suddenly she fell. Both of the pails of the milk fell to the ground. There was no milk left for her to sell. All Patty could do was cry and shout, “Why?!”
