The Reader(《朗读者》) is a popular TV show in China. It invites people to read aloud on the stage. The show also tells moving stories behind those people. They can read many things, like poems, books and letters.

Many people are fans of the show. They begin to enjoy reading aloud at home. Now, the show gives people a place to read. It is a reading pavilion(朗读亭). It showed up in cities like Shanghai, Hangzhou and Xi’an. Let’s have a look!

The pavilion is not very big. Only one person can come into it each time. There is a microphone(麦克风) in it and it records people’s voices.

Everyone can read for three minutes in it. You can read anything you like. The show will pick some of the readers and invite them to read on TV.

Lots of people come to the pavilion to read. Yu Duohan is an 11-year-old girl from Shanghai. She read the story Take a Snail for a Walk(《牵一只蜗牛去散步》). “I love reading aloud,” she said. “It makes the story become more beautiful.”

Lewis Carroll was born in 1832 in a small town in the north-west of England. His real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. He was a teacher of Maths at Christ Church College but he didn’t enjoy this job very much.
In his free time he wrote many short stories. His best-known work, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, was published(出版)in 1865. It was so popular that Carroll became rich and famous. Later in 1871 he published another ‘Alice’ book called Alice Through The Looking Glass.
He never moved away from the college. In 1867 he went to Russia but this was the only time he travelled to foreign countries. He died in January 1898.

Summary:
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is the story of a dream. Alice and her sister are sitting on the grass in a field on a warm day in July. She has nothing to do. Then she goes to sleep quickly and dreams that she goes to a wonderful place called Wonderland.
Her adventures begin when she follows a white rabbit down a rabbit hole. There she finds a small door into a beautiful garden. She can’t go through the door because she’s too big. Many amazing things happen to her before she goes into the garden. She drinks and eats things that make her grow bigger and smaller. She swims in a pool of her own tears. She meets a cat with a big smile. She has a tea party with a hatter, a hare and a mouse. In the garden, she meets the Queen of Hearts. She invites Alice to play games. Finally she goes to the trial (审讯) of the Knave of Hearts. The trail is very silly and Alice begins to get angry. Then she wakes up.

It is a famous story by an American writer Kate DiCamilo in 2006.

People, the young and the old, love this book. And it’s so popular that it is one of the “Top 100 Books for Children” in the US.

The story is about a journey of a china rabbit (瓷兔子) called Edward. He lives with his ten-year-old owner (主人) named Abilene. Abilene loves him very much but Edward doesn’t love her. During a holiday on a ship, Edward is lost. After spending 297 days in the sea, he reaches a beach and a man takes him home. Then Edward travels from one place to another, meeting many people. His name keeps changing, such as Susie and Maloney. Soon he begins to miss Abilene and wait for her. One day Edward falls into pieces. Someone repairs (修理) it and sells it in the market. Many years later, Abilene and her daughter come to the market and take Edward home. Finally Edward is with his owner again.

There are many pictures in the book, so we can follow Edward’s journey easily.

You can learn that Edward learns love and never stops waiting for Abilene. This is why they meet each other at the end of the story. The warm. and sweet story will make you know more about love.
