“Volunteering makes you look at the world differently. You see how little things can change a person’s life for the better.” Mason, a volunteer said.

National Volunteer Week started in 1974 and it is a good chance to encourage people to take their first step to become a volunteer. Making the decision to take the first step can be the biggest problem, because they often wonder if they will be able to meet the organization’s expectations(期望). Some people fear not knowing anyone else in the group. Not having enough time also stops some people from becoming volunteers.

The following tips can help if you have some of these worries.

★ Start out slowly, don’t add too much pressure.

★ Choose an organization with the same interests.

★ Take part in a training meeting for new volunteers, even if it is not asked.

★ Work with a veteran volunteer. He volunteered a lot, he can help you be confident and completely understand the organization’s expectations.

★ Invite a friend or family member to serve. It is a good experience to volunteer with them.

★ Finally, it is most important to enjoy the volunteer experience and to remember that not all volunteer experiences are perfect.

Spend some time on volunteer work and you will see great changes in people’s lives.

How can you be a healthy kid? Here are some rules.

Eat all kinds of foods

You can have your favorite food, but you must eat different kinds of foods. If you eat different kinds of foods, you are more likely to get the nutrients(营养) your body need. Eat at least five kinds of fruits and vegetables a day, two kinds of fruits and three kinds of vegetables.

Drink water and milk

When you’re really thirsty, water is the best drink. And there’s a reason why your school offers milk. Kids need calcium(钙) to build strong bones, and milk can give kids much calcium.

Listen to your body

What does it feel like to be full? When you’re eating, notice how your body feels. Sometimes, people eat too much because they don’t notice when they need to stop eating.

Limit(限制) screen time

What’s screen time? It’s a lot of time you spend watching TV, playing video games, and using a smart phone, tablet or computer. The more time you spend on these activities, the less time you do sports. Try to spend no more than two hours a day on screen.

People often ask me for advice about how to learn English. In fact, everyone is different. Let me share some of my experience. Once I took an English course for a school year in Wuhan University, but I almost learned English on my own.

Once you’ve started, you should try to think in English as much as possible. Think about “How to say them in English?” when you see things while riling your bike, or walking in the street. A first, it may be with simple words or phrases. But later, you should think about longer phrases and sentence.

Now I’m in America. I just think in English and speak it directly most of the time. It’s amazing how much it helps.

I was often afraid of talking with others in English because I didn’t want to make mistakes. Finally, I got it over. While travelling in the US, I tried to hang out with friends who couldn’t speak Chinese so that I had no choice but to speak English. After that, my English started to improve more quickly.
