“Come on, Dad! It’s 7:20 a.m. now,” says Harry.

“I need to wash the car now,” Mr. Smith says. “You walk to school this morning, OK?”

“But the school is a little far,” says Jane.

“Walking is good. Now get your schoolbags and go!”

Then Jane and Harry have to walk to school. It takes 30 minutes. When they get to school, they are very tired.

In the evening, Jane and Harry have dinner with their grandfather. They tell him they are not happy to walk to school.

Grandpa says, “That’s good for you. I used to (过去常常) walk five miles to school every day.”

“Really?” Jane says. “But I don’t like walking.”

Grandpa says, “Children need to walk or run every day. It’s good for your health.

“Oh, I’ll start walking every day,” Harry says. “I’d like to be healthy.”

“I will (将要) join you, Harry,” says Jane.

One day, after work, I decided to take a meal to an old woman. I always saw her on my way home. When I was sitting and talking with her, she began to tell me that it was her birthday. I wished her a happy birthday and asked what she got for her birthday. She told me that she was happy to get the best birthday present and it was a hot meal.

I asked her how old she was, and she told me that she was 83 years old. From my pocket, I took out all the money. And I asked her to help me count it. She was happy to do so. She counted the money over and over again. Finally, she told me that it was $143.87.

I asked her to count out $83 and take it as her birthday present — a dollar for a year. She was grateful to me, and her eyes were filled (充满) with tears. She told me it was the first time for her to get something like that from a stranger (陌生人). For me, it was my best stop on my way home.
