There are many different kinds of jobs around the world. Many of the students have different ideas about their future jobs.

My name is Li Yan. I’m a reporter from the magazine, People’s Life in Town. Last Monday afternoon, we did a survey (调查) in Class 1, Grade 8 in Dongshan Junior High School. There are 50 students in the class. And we asked them about their future jobs that they like. Here is the result.

The engineer is the most popular job. 20% of them want to work as engineers. Nine students would like to be doctors because they want to help people be healthy. Eight of them want to be teachers when they grow up. Five students are over 180 cm, so they want to be basketball players. Three want to be singers and actors. Four think they like to be computer programmers and three like to be cooks. The rest now have no idea about what to be in the future.

My name is Bill. Here is my family photo. This is my grandmother. These are my parents. My father’s name is Mike Smith. He is an English teacher at No. 2 Middle School. My mother is Linda. She is not a teacher. She works in a hotel. This girl is my sister. Her name is Alice. She is eleven. She is in Class Three, Grade Five. And this is me. I’m fifteen. I’m in Class Three, Grade Nine.

“Every worker coming to Beijing has their own reasons. No one lives here without a dream,” said Chen, a 37-year-old food deliveryman（送餐员）from a small city.

Chen dreamed of having his own business in Beijing when he left senior high school. But his father asked him to take his place as a truck driver in the oil field. Although Chen disliked the job, he didn’t want to let his father down. He took the job as a truck driver. Then he got married and had a son. “I got quite good pay, but life was boring during those years,” said Chen.

Chen decided to give up his job and come to Beijing. His wife agreed that he should go for his dreams. Chen has been a food deliveryman for a month. He works 15 hours a day and hardly has time for lunch at noon. Chen spends only 10 yuan on each meal to cut the cost of living in Beijing. “I want to give a better life to my wife and little son,” he said. “I must work harder and try to become the best food deliveryman in my field.” Chen likes his job because he can meet many people. Every “thank you” from a customer is like praise for his work.

Chen plans to start his own restaurant in the future, so he always writes down what food people have ordered. In this way, he gets a better understanding of people’s tastes.
