For almost 100 years, the Winter Olympics have been a celebration for snow and ice sports around the world. The special event only happens once every four years.

Although the Winter Olympics started with just four sports in France in 1924, they have grown to include seven sports. They have been hosted in 12 countries across three continents. In 2022, for the first time in the history, Beijing becomes the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics. China has got many achievements since it took part in the Winter Olympics for the first time in 1980. In this short time, China’s sports players have won many medals in the event. They are quite good at short track speed skating (短道速滑).

China’s love for winter sports has been growing. Our country has planned to build 5, 000 special schools by 2025 to improve winter sports education. Primary and high schools will add winter sports to their subjects. Many provinces and cities have already acted. Classes will be set up in schools in northern China to improve interest in winter sports. In southern China, schools can work with winter sports clubs. Beijing has already set a good example. Nearly 840, 000 students in the city has begun taking winter sports lessons, including skating and skiing lessons.

A 17-year-old Chinese girl, from Inner Mongolia, has broken several school records in long-distance running. And she owes (归功于) her excellent performance to her father: He not only accompanies (陪伴) his daughter on her runs every morning, but he has also built a simple “gym” for her.

Zheng Guohua starts her run on the street with her father at four o’clock every morning. Her father, Zheng Long, always rides a motorcycle to accompany her.

Besides running, the father has also made a training plan for his daughter, and built a simple “gym” by himself.

Zheng Long made good use of something old that he collected during his spare time to set up the fitness equipment. It took him half a month to build the gym so his daughter could exercise better.

Every time during the school sports meeting, he attends his daughter’s competitions. Zheng Guohua said proudly, “My classmates envy me for having such a good father. They all want to have a father like mine.”

In Zheng Guohua’s eyes, her father is not only a serious coach during training, but also a good friend along the way.

Zheng Guohua said that there were times when she wanted to give up training, however, she encouraged herself with her father’s words: “Only by paying the price of Superman can we get the harvest of Superman.”
