One day, my mother said she wanted to buy me some new clothes. I was very happy and surprised because my family didn’t have much money at that time. I bought three dresses: a pink one, a blue one and a yellow and blue one. I liked that yellow and blue dress best, I often played and studied with my best friend, Sara. I was happy to show her my three new beautiful dresses. She loved them and was happy for me. But at the same time she felt sad because she could only get new clothes on her birthday. So I asked her to pick out one of the three dresses of mine.
Then she picked my favorite one the yellow and blue one! I was not happy. You know, I was only a seven-year-old girl. She tried it on and felt very happy. I didn’t want her to feel bad. So I told her it looked great on her. When I told my mother about it, she said, “Kelly, you’re a good girl.”
I shared my dress with my best friend, and she shared her joy (快乐) with me. That’s true friendship (友谊). And we are still best friends now.

According to a recent study conducted at the University of Pittsburgh in the US, watching horror movies can raise our mood, unite people and increase our confidence.
In the study, 262 adults were asked to enter a haunted house. Inside, they were met with a series of intense(紧张的) things over a course of 35 minutes, and were asked to record their feelings both before and after the experience. At the same time, the researchers also monitored their brain waves. According to the researchers, the participants(参加者) were more likely to be happier and less anxious and tired after they left the house. That's because in this intense condition, their brains produce more dopamine.
What’s more, taking advantages of this sensation may bring people together . Experiencing the haunted house is just like running a 5 kilometers race or tackling a difficult climbing wall. This means that people in scary situations may be more likely to be uncertain and depend on others for support. “ We build a special closeness with those we are with when we are in an excited state,” said Margee Keer ,one of the study's authors, told The Atlantic. “ We're social and emotional beings---- we need each other in times of stress. So the fact that our bodies have evolved to make sure we feel close to those we’re with when afraid makes sense.”
In addition, being scared in a safe place could be a good way to increase our confidence. “Being scared in a safe place is a source of enjoyment and makes us feel good physically and can even serve as a confidence boost by reminding us that we can make it through a scary situation. We are strong.” Keer told The Independent.

Many kids think they are too common. They think they are not the prettiest or the smartest. Sometimes kids don’t know how special they are. When they see outstanding athletes or cool pop stars, they often think: Am I outstanding? What am I going to be when I grow up?
Growing up means understanding what you can do and what you can offer to the world. When you are young, you don’t see that. But when you get older, you may know that just by being yourself, you do offer something to other people.
Maybe you aren’t the best, but that doesn’t make you “not special”. Think about your friends. Write down some things that you like about them. Think about why you are friends. You are going to know that in the end, though they aren’t the smartest or the prettiest or the most talented, they are great in their way. And they feel just the same as you!
In fact it is great to be the best at something, but it’s OK if you can’t be the best. If you just live your life and try hard, you are still pretty amazing. And you can make your dream come true.
