Mary Moe looks like a common(普通的) grandmother. But she is not. She learned how to fly a plane at the age of 91.

When Mary was a child, she dreamed of being a pilot(飞行员). But she couldn’t find time to make her dream come true all the time. At the age of 34, she was just too busy-busy fighting with a serious illness. She was also busy with her job to raise her family. There was simply no time to think about flying a plane. And it was difficult for her to drive to the airport. The price of lessons was very high. Everything seemed to work against Mary, so her dream had to wait.

One day when she was 91, she learned about Wish of a Lifetime. It is a non-profit organization and its aim is to change the way the society thinks about old people. It also sends the message that it is never too late for a dream. With the help of it, Mary received three flying lessons. And on the big day of her first flight, her family and friends all came out to cheer her up. Mary’s success made everyone around her excited and proud.

The new pilot was excited and said to everyone, “It is never too late to spread your wings and try something new.”

[1]Here is a story. A man sees a butterfly(蝴蝶). The butterfly tries to get out of its chrysalis(蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprising enough, the butterfly is unable to fly.

[2]If the butterfly doesn't struggle(挣扎)_____________the chrysalis, it can't fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges of life bring out the best in young people and make them fly.

[3]当人们年轻的时候, 遇见并克服挑战将会使他们强大。They can be ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many big supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father's death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.

[4]Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.

There was once a man who built his own house. From top to bottom, he built it by himself. After a year, he had a beautiful house of his own. No other house looked like it and many of his neighbors liked it.

But as time went by, his house started to have some problems. One day, a neighbor said, “Friend, it looks like your garden is a bit overgrown.”

The man replied, “Yes, I know. But it’s OK. I’ll cut the grass tomorrow.”

A few days later, a mailman came by with a letter for the man. The mailman said, “Friend, it looks like your windows are a bit dirty.”

The man replied, “Yes, I know. But it’s OK. I’ll wash them tomorrow.”

Weeks passed by. Finally, the man’s brother came over. He looked at the house and couldn’t believe what he saw. The paint on the walls was falling down and the windows were covered with dirt. It seemed the house could fall at any second—all because the man put everything off until “tomorrow”.

When we procrastinate (拖延), “tomorrow” can turn into “next week” or even “next year”. Never put off till tomorrow what we can do today. Or we cannot be successful in anything.

Long time ago there lived a man. He believed that he could read the future in the stars. He called himself an astrologer (占星家) and spent his time at night looking at the sky. He was always busy worrying about future and villagers often came to him, hoping to know what their future will be like.

One evening he was walking along the open road outside the village. His eyes were watching the stars. He lost in thoughts about the future. As he was looking at the stars, he kept walking without looking down. Suddenly, he fell into a well. There was not much water in the well, but he became all wet.

He tried to climb out, but he couldn’t. He started shouting for help and soon the villagers came.

As they pulled him out of the well, one of them said, “You try to read the future in the stars, and yet you fail to see what is at your feet! This may teach you to pay more attention to what is right in front of you, and let the future is taken care of by itself.”
