Gu Ailing won a gold medal in the women’s freeski big air event (自由式滑大跳台) at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. This exciting news made all Chinese people excited and surprised because this was China’s first gold medal of snow event in the history of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Gu Ailing was born in Los Angeles. Her father is American and her mother is Chinese. Gu grows up in a bilingual environment. She can speak Chinese very well and call herself a Beijing girl. Her mother talks to her in Chinese at home. Gu comes back to Beijing every summer holiday to visit the city. “China is a very beautiful country with a lot of nice people, interesting things and delicious food,” Gu said.

In fact, Gu is not only a talented skier but also a top student. She has classes normally from Monday to Friday, takes part in different kinds of activities in the school, and can only go skiing for the training on weekends and holidays. However, she still gets excellent results in sports and schoolwork. In 2020, she got into Stanford University with almost full grades.

In June, 2021, Gu wrote on the Internet that she decided to compete for China in the coming 2022 Winter Olympics. “I felt like I had more chances to inspire young girls, I am really excited that I can inspire a lot of people around me.” Gu said. It is obvious that Gu already sets a good example for the young girls.

It is Sunday afternoon. Mary goes to do the shopping with her mother. Her mother wants to buy some food for supper. Mary wants to buy a new skirt and some school things. They come to a shop.

Mary and her mother go in. There are many people in the shop. Mary finds a nice white skirt. “How much is the skirt?” Mary asks the girl in the shop.

“It’s eighty yuan.”

“That’s too dear（贵的）. Can you show me a cheaper（便宜的）one?”

“What about the green one? It looks nice. And it’s only thirty yuan. “OK, thanks a lot.”

“You are welcome. ”

After that, Mary buys some school things, too. Her mother buys a lot of food, like bread, cakes, meat and fish. They get home very late.
