Chinese pandas meet the public in the World Cup host country. Soccer fans can not only enjoy the World Cup games in Doha(多哈), the capital of Qatar(卡塔尔), but also say hello to giant pandas from China.

The 3-year-old female panda is called Si Hai and the 4-year-old male panda is called Jing Jing. They also have Arab(阿拉伯的) names, Suhail for Jing Jing and Soraya for Si Hai. 【小题1】 On November 17th, Doha’s first-ever panda house opened to the public. It is the new home of two Chinese giant pandas.

【小题2】 Their house was built with air-conditioning. They have bamboo from China and can also eat carrots, apples and traditional Chinese pancakes.

The pandas arrived in Doha on October 19th. 【小题3】 According to the agreement between China and Qatar, they will stay in Qatar from 2022 to 2036. 【小题4】 During this period, if a baby panda is born, extra rent needs to be paid and the baby panda should be sent back to China before the age of three.

Many ants are workers. 【小题2】 They look for food and take care of the young ants. Each family of ant has a queen ant. The queen doesn’t work at all. She is important because she lay eggs (下蛋). 【小题3】 Some queen ants can live for many years and have millions of babies!

There are many kinds of ants in America. One kind of these is very strong. They can kill and eat elephants. 【小题4】 They eat animals while moving on their way. 【小题5】 Ants “hear” by feeling vibrations (振动) in the ground through their feet.

All living things on Earth need water. Land animals have to drink water to keep it in their bodies. But do fish need to drink water, too?

There’re two kinds of fish. One is called freshwater fish. They live in places like lakes and rivers. The other is called saltwater fish and they live in the sea.

Water always moves from places where there is less salt to places where there is more salt. Freshwater fish have more salt in their bodies than the water around them does. So the water goes directly into their bodies through their gills(鱼鳃). These fish don’t really have to drink water through their mouths like we do.

Saltwater fish, on the other hand, have less salt in their bodies than the sea water does. They often drink a lot of sea water. If we drink too much sea water, we will become very thirsty and even die from having too much salt in our bodies. But saltwater fish are different. They have a special system in their bodies. This system can take salt from the water they drink and put it back out into the sea. In this way, the salt in the fish’s bodies stays in balance(平衡).
