Paul received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. One day, when Paul came out of his office, a boy was walking around the shining car.“Is this your car?” he asked.
Paul answered,“Yes,my brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was surprised.“You mean your brother gave it to you and it cost you nothing?Paul, I wish…” he hesitated.
Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the boy said surprised Paul.
The boy said,“I wish that I could be a brother like that.” Paul looked at the boy in surprise. Then he asked,“Would you like to take a ride in my car?”
“Yes, I'd love to.”
After a short ride, the boy said,“Paul, would you mind stopping the car in front of my house?”Paul smiled. He thought he knew what the boy wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big car. But Paul was wrong again.
The boy ran into his home. Then in a short while Paul heard him coming back. He was carrying his little crippled(残疾的) brother. He seated him down and pointed to the car.
“There it is, Buddy. His brother gave it to him and it cost him nothing. Some day I'm going to give you one just like it.”
Paul lifted the boy to the front seat of his car. The older brother sat behind him and the three of them began an unforgettable ride.

The first part of a new science-fiction series( 系 列 剧 )was shown on NBC last night. Star Trek is about a spacecraft(宇宙飞船)which travels faster than the speed of light. The show is developed from three ideas about the 22nd century. First, well find other life forms in our galaxy.(星系)Second, we won't fight with these aliens. And third, we'll have great tools which will make amazing things possible.
Let's think about these predictions. If we find life forms on other planets, will they be intelligent I hope so. But we human beings might not be friendly – I don't think we'll believe in the idea of peace one hundred years from now. But this is science fiction, so we can be optimistic! And Star Trek's idea of life in the future is 'communicators'. And we will be able to have conversations with people who are on because you'll have an electronic notebook. And if you get ill, the doctor won't have to examine you – a machine will 'read' your body. The strangest machine includes a 'teleport' which will take people to a different place in a second!
The ideas are interesting, and in my opinion there's only one problem with star trek: the acting. The TV company(公司)will have to get better actors. If they do that, the show might be a success. If the acting doesn't improve, Star Trek won't last for more than one series. Of course, my prediction may be wrong. I can't see into the future!
