Dear Mary,

I am really excited to hear that you will come to Brazil to spend your vacation. Let me tell you about my hometown Rio de Janeiro (里约热内卢) first. It is a big and nice city. If you travel to Rio de Janeiro, you can see the biggest park in Brazil, the biggest library in South America and the biggest football stadium in the world. If you are a football fan, Rio de Janeiro is the best place to travel, because you can see many football stars playing football here.

If you come to Brazil in February, I will take you to go to the carnival. That is really interesting and exciting. It is the biggest carnival in Brazil and it usually lasts three days. During the carnival, you can see a lot of Brazilians in the street, wearing colorful costurnes. You can also join them. It’s great fun. I hope to see you soon!

Lisa

Shirley: Mr. Vallelonga, sorry to keep you waiting. I’m Dr. Donald Shirley.
Tony: Tony.
Shirley: Yes. Please sit down.
Tony: I thought, uh, I thought I was going to an office. They said a doctor needed a driver.
Shirley: That’s all they told you?
Tony: Yeah.
Shirley: Actually, it’s a bit more complicated than that. Have you ever driven professionally before?
Tony: Yeah. Garbage trucks. Plus, I drive my boss home at night. But I can drive anything, limos, tow trucks, snowplows, whatever.
Shirley: I see. Well, first of all, Tony, I’m not a medical doctor. I’m a musician.
Tony: You mean, like, songs?
Shirley: Yes. And I’m going on a concert tour down south.
Tony: Atlantic City?
Shirley: No. The Deep South. We’re starting in the Midwest, and then we’re taking a hard left. Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, and on down through the Delta. Do you foresee (预知) any issues in working for a black man?
Tony: No, no, no. It was just the other day, me and wife had a couple of colored guys over at the house, for the drinks.
Shirley: Hmm. I see. You’re married.
Tony: Yeah, two kids.
Shirley: I’m not sure this is the proper job for a married man. My point is, we’ll be gone for eight straight weeks. No breaks, right up until Christmas.
Tony: Depends what you’re paying.
Shirley: A hundred dollars a week. But let me be crystal clear, I’m not just hiring a driver. I need someone who can be a personal assistant. I need a valet (仆人). I need someone who can launder my clothes and shine my shoes.
Tony: Good luck, Doc.
Shirley: Tony, I had my someone ask around town to find me the right man. You’ve impressed me with your born ability to handle trouble.
Tony: Okay. Here’s the deal. But I will iron no shirts, and polish nobody’s shoes. Besides, you need someone to make sure there’s no problem along the way, and believe me, you and the Deep South, there’s gonna be problems.
