On Oct. 25 this year, the Healthy China Action (2019-2030): Tobacco Control Promotion Campaign(控烟行动) came out in Beijing. It shows about 9.4 million junior high school students tried tobaccos(烟)before.
How did this happen? First of all, stopping smoking in public(公共) places is difficult. It’s easy for teenagers to buy tobaccos on streets. And it’s hard to find out who is smoking in a place full of people. And how to punish(惩处) them is a question. It will use much money to make people ask others not to smoke in public places. So, some units(部门) just have to let it go.
There’s another reason we should know. Although we can’t find tobacco ads(广告) on TV or newspapers, there are many other ways for teenagers to see tobaccos. Today we can see actors and actresses smoking in the movies and soap operas. Also, pictures of singers and actors smoking are everywhere on the Internet. As a result, 13% of the students in the schools of Beijing think smoking makes them look cooler. “Did you see Chow Yun Fat in the movie God of Gamblers(赌神)? Smoking makes him so manly and cool! If I can smoke, I’ll look fantastic, too.” said a 13-year-old boy student.
How can we make things better? First of all, stars shouldn’t smoke in their programs too often. And news about stars and singers smoking should also become less. The less teenagers see their favorite stars smoke, the less they want to smoke themselves. Schools and families must take actions, too. Teachers and parents mustn’t smoke in front of the students or kids. And we should let teenagers know the bad things about tobaccos. We can also have people share ideas about tobacco control in schools, so students can join the action.

It is most difficult for parents to decide whether to have a second child or not.
It is often heard that a single child is like to be a lonely child. There are no other children in the family for the child to talk or play with. An only child is not able to get along well with children of his age. Some parents regretted making the decisions to have only one child.
But the number of parents choosing to have only one child is increasing in many parts of the world. In the US, for example, more than 14 percent of women between 18 and 34 plan to have just one child. The same can be seen in the UK. In Japan, the average number of children born per family had gone down to 1.42 by 1996.
For some single-child parents, especially who are busy working every day, time and energy seem to be overwhelming. They don’t have enough time and energy to share with more children. For other people, money is their first consideration. Many couples in Japan choose not to have large families as the cost of supporting a child up to the age of 18 reaches around US$160,000.
