If you often travel by train, it is usual for you to hear others’ loud phone calls or the sounds of kids. But some people want to have a peaceful trip. Luckily, the solution is on its way.

Starting on Dec 23, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway (铁路) gives a quiet carriage (车厢) service. It would create a quieter and more comfortable environment for passengers (乘客), China State Railway Group said.

In the quiet carriage, passengers can’t put their phones and computers on speaker. But it’s OK for them to change their phones to “shake” or “quiet”. Also, they can make phone calls in the hallway.

If passengers can follow the rules, they will be able to choose the quiet carriages when buying train tickets on 12306.cn.

Many are looking forward to this choice. “With the quiet carriage, I can enjoy some peaceful time on the train with people who have the same idea,” Yin Yue, a high-speed rail passenger in Beijing, told China Daily.

However, some think that this could make people think wrongly. Yang Hongshan, a doctor of Renmin University of China, said that people might think that they needn’t keep quiet in normal carriages.

More than giving passengers quiet carriage service, the company should take action to educate passengers on how to keep quiet during train trips in normal carriages, Yang said.
