Starting a volunteer club at school isn’t easy. But with good ideas and the right knowledge (知识), you can do it. Read on to learn how.

Be sure that you really want to start a volunteer club. Decide what you want to do. For example, you can start a club to volunteer once a week at a soup kitchen in your neighborhood. Ask around and see what your friends think of your idea, and if they would like to join your club. When you have enough support (支持), you’re ready to start.

________Because your volunteer club is at school, it’s better to get a teacher’s support. He or she can help you organize events and be a liaison (联系人) with the school.

Find a place. After the school lets you start the club, you need a place to have meetings. Most clubs meet in classrooms after school. You can also think about meeting at someone’s house or at a park or a restaurant.

Decide when to meet. Talk with other members and then choose a convenient (方便的) day when most members will be free.

Plan volunteer events. Once you have enough members in your club, start volunteering! You can decide on events yourself or have a meeting to get other members’ ideas.

A teacher decided to let her class play a game. The teacher told each child in the class to bring along a plastic bag with a few potatoes. Each potato will be given a name of a person that the child hates. So the number of potatoes that a child will put in the plastic bag will depend on hatred the number of people he/she hates.

So when the day came, every child brought some potatoes with the name of the people he/she hated. Some had two potatoes and some three while some up to five potatoes. The teacher then told the children to carry the potatoes in the plastic bag with them wherever they go for one week. As days passed, and the children started to complain due to the unpleasant smell let out by the rotten(腐烂的) potatoes. Besides, those having five potatoes also had to carry heavier bags. After one week, the game was finally over.

The teacher asked, “How did you feel while carrying the potatoes with you for one week?” The children started complaining of the trouble that they had to go through having to carry the heavy and smelly potatoes wherever they go.

Then the teacher told them the hidden meaning behind the game. The teacher said, “This is exactly the situation when you carry your hatred(仇恨) for somebody inside your heart. The hatred will be harmful to your heart. If you cannot tolerate the smell of rotten potatoes for just one week, can you imagine what it is like to have the hatred in your heart for your lifetime?”
