Parents always want the best for their kids. But everyone has their own way of parenting(养育). Here are some popular parenting styles. Which one do you like best?

Tiger parents(虎爸虎妈)

They are strict with their children. They want them to get the best grades in their class. They love their kids in their hearts.

Dolphin parents(海豚式父母)

They just want their kids to be happy and healthy. They make sure their kids get enough sleep and exercise.

Helicopter parents(直升机式父母)

They worry too much about their children and "fly" over them like helicopters. Many people think these parents should give their children more freedom(自由).

Dear Help Me Hal,

I moved from Munich to Berlin last month, and now I’m a student at Handel School. I like the school, but I don’t have any new friends here. I tried to talk to my classmates after the bell rang at the end of class, but nobody said much to me. Well, one person did. She told me that I could not wear a sweatshirt(运动衫)over my uniform. I am really friendly, and want to make new friends. But I don’t know what to do. Please help me!.

Kate
Dear Kate,

I’m happy that you wrote to me. Here are some ideas to help you make friends. First, don’t talk much to your classmates after the bell rings. Most people must go quickly to their next lesson. They don’t have time to talk. You can sit with your classmates when having lunch. Then they have more time to talk to you. Or, go to the playground during the break. Find people doing something that is interesting to you and talk to them. People having the same interest are easy to be friends.

Good luck!
Help Me Hal

An important question about eating out is who pays for the meal. If a friend of yours asks you to have lunch with him, you may say something like this, “I’m afraid it’ll have to be someplace cheap, as I have little money.” The other person may say, “OK, I’ll meet you at McDonald’s.”
This means that the two agree to go Dutch, that is, each person pays for himself. He may also say, “Oh, no, I want to take you to lunch at Smith’s,” or “I want you to try the Chinese dumplings there. They are great.” This means the person wants to pay for both of you. If you feel friendly towards this person, you can go with him and you needn’t pay for the meal. You may just say, “Thank you. That would be very nice.”
American custom(风俗) about who pays for dates(约会) are much the same as in other parts of the world. In the old days, American women wanted men to pay for all the meals. But, today, a university girl or a woman in business world will usually pay her way during the date. If a man asks her for a dance outside the working hours, it means “Come, as my guest(客人).” So as you can see, it is a polite thing to make the question clear at the very beginning.

Parents like to share children’s photos in social medias. Some children think parents should respect children’s privacy. But others think it’s a way to show parents’ love.

Qian Bosi, 14

Parents should respect and protect their children’s privacy (隐私). Photos can show their kids’faces, places they’ve been to and other information. In these cases, parents can accidentally violate (侵犯) their kids’ privacy when sharing photos online. It’s not safe. Some people might use the photos for bad things. It’s hard to imagine what could happen. Parents should be more careful about this. Li Meiying, 14

Some parents like to share embarrassing photos of their kids online. For example, sometimes their kids are sleeping or crying in their pictures. But most kids don’t want these photos to be shared online. They may not care when they are little babies, but as they grow up, they might be upset about it. So to avoid hurting their children’s feelings, parents should ask for permission (允许) from their kids before sharing their photos online. He Meixi, 14

In my opinion, there’s nothing wrong about parents posting pictures of their babies online. It shows that they love their children – they just want to share pictures of their kids with their friends. It’s a convenient way for relatives who live far away to stay in touch with their family. And when these children grow up, they can find these pictures online and relive their childhood.
