Choosing a good job is almost like choosing a good life. So, choosing a job is one of the most important decisions to make in life.

There are three important things you can think about:

First, work in an area you like. Someone once said if you find a job that you enjoy, then you won’t have to work another day. If you like to work in an area, you will be more creative there. You can probably be the most valuable member there if you like what you do.

Second, work in an area which can bring you more chances and challenges. More than just working to live, you can enjoy making a difference and trying your best for the whole progress at work. You can also make much money as a pay for your hard work, so you can lead a comfortable life with this hard-won money. Then you can offer the best to your family.

Third, work in an area that would help other people. You can help to develop the abilities of others and bring out their best. It would be a most pleasant job to help young people become the best that they can be. When you become old, you can look back with a great sense of satisfaction (满足) that thousands of people have become better persons through your work.

No one should choose a job suddenly or quickly. You should decide what you want to be in the long run. Then, you should decide how you work towards it. You should study the proper courses, read the books and speak to persons of knowledge in that field before choosing a job choice. A good job will most probably bring you a better life.

About three hours’ drive to the south from Changsha, Hunan, there is a small, unknown village called Baiyun. That’s where Qin Yuefei works and lives.

Born in Chongqing in 1985. Qin has been known as a gifted boy since his childhood. When he graduated from Yale in 2011, he gave up finding a well-paid job in big cities. To everyone’s surprise, he took the exam held by the local government and became a village official in Hejiashan Village. His monthly pay was only 1,450 yuan. In the following three years, Qin fit into the local life and won the trust of the villagers. He managed to raise money and helped the villagers to improve their living conditions.

“But it’s not enough. When I leave the village, there will be no more money raised and everything will stay the same.” Qin said. So when facing a chance of promotion(提升) in 2014, he gave it up and went to work as a village official in another village, Baiyun. He decided to try his best to make real changes in the countryside.

When working in Baiyun Village, he started a project called Serve for China to encourage young talents to start businesses and provide public services in the countryside. It attracted(吸引) more than 30 young people who graduated from famous colleges. They helped the villagers use the local resources(资源) to make some wonderful products. Besides that, they also helped to sell these products online. “The success of the business will attract young people of the village to return to their hometown and work for the village”, said Qin.

Qin’s term of service in Baiyun Village was up two years ago, but he chose to stay because the thing he really wanted to do just started.

Takeover Day is an event for young people to “take over” the day from adults. Of course, it’s difficult to give someone the job of a film star or a model! However, Takeover Day has offered young people jobs as news reporters, teachers and even politicians. There are two purposes.

First, it gives young people experience in different kinds of jobs. Second, adults can learn from young people’s opinions and fresh ideas.

Here is what some students say about their Takeover Day.

Simon, 15, went to a football club. He became a coach of the football team for a day. “It was an important experience,” said Simon. “If I had the chance, I would do this job every day.”

Sally, 14, became the head teacher of her school. She learned a lot. “I’d go crazy if I were a head teacher! So many meetings!” she said. “My favorite part of the day was meeting the school cook and improving the school menus for the week. It was a great chance to tell her what we really like eating!”

Paul, 13, spent the day with an important politician. He even went to a meeting at Buckingham Palace! Paul thought that if everyone had the chance to follow a politician for a day, they would be surprised. “It isn’t a nine-to-five job. It’s 24 hours a day or 7 days in a week,” he said. “We even had no time for lunch.”
