China has introduced new rules to reduce the time children spend on their smartphones. The rules say that young people would not be 【小题1】 to use most Internet services on smartphones from 10: 00 pm to 6: 00 am. The rules also say that children 【小题2】 the ages of 16 and 18 would only be able to 【小题3】 the Internet for two hours a day. Children between the ages of 8 and 15 would be allowed for only an hour a day 【小题4】 those under 8 could spend only 40 minutes. These rules are made to solve the problem of Internet addiction (沉迷) among 【小题5】 people. In 2019, the Chinese government set a limit of 90 minutes per day for 【小题6】 online game time. Then, in 2023, they made the rules even 【小题7】. Children could only play online games for one hour per day on Fridays, weekends, and public holidays.

To make sure children have a healthy online experience, some popular apps have 【小题8】 special modes (模式) just for kids. The government also wants children to have more 【小题9】 activities, like doing fun science experiments.

To make the Internet safer for children, the government has been encouraging the use of youth modes on apps. These modes have been 【小题10】 in cutting down the time kids spend online and the number of bad things they see.

A helpless mother

A study by Dr. Martin Wang shows that students are watching television less but playing computer games and using the Internet more. In the study, Dr. Wang 【小题1】 quite a few students some questions in Taiwan. He asked them what they did in their free time. And here are the 【小题2】.

“Although students are watching TV less, they are still 【小题3】 indoors,” said Dr. Wang. “We saw a big increase(增长) in using the Internet and playing computer games.” Dr. Wang finds that students watch TV 【小题4】   ten percent less, but they play computer games five percent more and use the Internet eight percent more. Some experts think it is good for students, because playing computer games and using the Internet may help 【小题5】 their brain(大脑).

【小题6】, Dr. Wang doesn’t think so. He thinks it’s not healthy for students. Using computer too much makes students become nearsighted(近视的). Besides, the 【小题7】 students stay indoors, the less they exercise.

The study shows that less than two percent students do sports 【小题8】 their favorite activities. “The lack of exercise can   cause(引起) bad feelings and overweight,” said Dr. Wang. The study also shows that students are reading more. But to his 【小题9】, most students are not reading novels but Japanese cartoon books. Dr. Wang points out(指出) that most students are too tired 【小题10】 serious books after doing their homework. Dr. Wang says that there should be less homework for students in Taiwan schools, so that they may have enough time to read and exercise.
