The World Declaration on Education for All (1990)(《全民教育世界宣言》) was mainly about how necessary it is to provide education for all children, youth and adults. It meets their needs and useful skills to their lives. They believe that good quality education, provided by trained teachers, is the right of all children, youth and adults. The basic skills, knowledge, values and attitudes should be included. What's more, creative thinking, problem solving and lifelong learning abilities are also important.

Teachers are important for improving learning. People all know this. They have a powerful influence on the quality of student learning. However, many countries, especially the developing countries, are short of qualified(合格的) teachers—in 1/3 of countries with data, less than 3/4 of teachers are trained to national standards. By 2030, 28 countries will not have enough primary school teachers and over 3.4 million new primary teachers will be needed. Also, teachers are paid poorly. Teacher payment is below US$10 per day in 8 countries.

Quality learning is important and necessary for meeting people's basic needs. It's also necessary for development of the countries. All young people need to learn in active ways. However, 124 million of the children across the world are out of school and 250 million are not learning basic skills as a result of poor quality education. According to a research, 38% of children are not learning the basics in reading and math. And over one-half of them have spent 4 years in school.

Luckily, many countries have realized the importance of quality education and pay great attention to it. There are even some organizations trying to help girls, children with disabilities and children living in poor areas to get an education.

I always feel that I am a failure (失败者). Compared with my classmates, I am not good at anything. I feel that no one likes me because I’m useless and boring. What should I do?

Chelsea

David

Everyone gets things wrong. Everyone is “boring” sometimes. That’s OK!

If mistakes are made, don’t take them too seriously. Sometimes our mistakes can be things to laugh at and learn from.

If you continue to feel like this, talk to a teacher and your parents. Maybe you just need a little help. Be confident (自信的), be you and do the things that make you happy.

Yin Peixin

I don’t think you’re a failure or useless or boring. I don’t know you, but I know everyone lives for a reason, and you have something you’re good at.

When I was living in the US, most of my friends were athletic (运动型的), and all had one sport or even a few sports that they were good at. Next to them, I was not good at them. But I knew I was better than them at school work, and I thought maybe we could work something out and help each other. That made me feel better.

Twenty years ago, the idea of sharing our lives so openly with the world was unheard of. However, for young people today it is considered completely normal to share pictures of their lives and interact online every day. Fans of social media point out that the world has never been so connected as it has allowed people to make friends, learn about the world and celebrate life.

However, many people have worried about the effects of this new way of living, particularly around the amount and type of information that is shared so openly. A recent research has found that too much time on social media may have some negative effects. The researchers measured people’s attitudes and feelings before and after watching social media sites. They found that the more time people spent on social media, the more unhappy they became.

There are a number of reasons for this. When watching social media, people often see photographs and stories showing beautiful holidays, fun parties and fashionable clothes. People seldom post negative stories or bad pictures, so it can be misleading. For those looking at these pictures and comparing them to their own lives, they can end up feeling depressed. They might think their lives are worse in comparison. Even for those people who post positive stories and pictures, they too can feel stressed and worried. The number of “likes” and comments on their posts can make them anxious about their popularity. Of course, there is also the problem of “cyber bullying” (网络欺凌) where people become victims of bullying online when others make negative or cruel comments about them.

The reality is that social media is a part of modern life and it is not going to go away. This research shows us that it is important to find a balance between our online and offline lives. We don’t have to disconnect from the Internet to live a happy life, but we should realize that the pictures we see and stories we read are only part of a bigger picture. If we can do that, we can protect ourselves and enjoy our lives.

B.They think others have happier lives.
C.They fear they may be cyber bullied by others.
D.They fear others have no interest in the stories.
【小题3】How does the author develop paragraph 3?
A.By giving causes.B.By listing numbers.
C.By making comparison.D.By describing process.
【小题4】What does the underlined part in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.The pictures we see are only part of the picture.
B.None of the stories we read on the Internet are true.
C.In order to live a happy life, we should share more pictures online.
D.What we see or read on the Internet only shows part of the reality.

Are you the first or the last child in your family? Or are you a middle or an only child? Some people think it matters where you were born in your family. But there are different ideas about what birth order means. Some people say that the eldest children are smart and strong-willed. They are very likely to be successful. The reason for this is simple. Parents have a lot of time for their first child; they give him or her a lot of attention. So this child is very likely to do well. An only child will succeed for the same reason. What happens to the other children in the family? Middle children don't get so much attention, so they don't feel that important. If a family has many children, the middle one sometimes gets lost in the crowd. The youngest child, though, often gets special treatment. He or she is the baby. Often this child grows up to be funny and charming. Do you believe these ideas about birth order too? A recent study saw things quite differently. The study found that first children believed in family rules. They didn't take many chances in their lives. They usually followed orders. Rules didn't mean as much to later children in the family. They went out and followed their own ideas. They took chances and they often did better in life.
