There are a lot of different people in the world, but we all want to get along well with others. Humans are social beings, and we enjoy being treated nicely. Getting along with someone isn’t about being his or her best friend or sharing all his or her hobbies. It is about treating people with respect and care.

To start a conversation, it is important to listen first, especially when you are in a group. Don’t let yourself talk with others at once when you have just arrived. First, examine the situation and the conversation, then say what you think is fit for it. So it is better to listen to what the talk is about before speaking.

A little laughter goes a long way. If someone makes fun of you, try to laugh it off. If someone is upset, smile at him or her. Be careful of your expressions on your face.

Some people don’t read body language. For these people, it really works to just speak with a cheerful face and voice and say directly you want to get along with him or her.

Being kind gets reward. It could be as simple as offering to help someone who is trying to carry something. This will show your care about other people and this will make them want to be around you.

Everybody gets stressed from time to time. 【小题1】 Some ways of dealing with stress—like screaming or hitting someone—don’t solve much. But other ways, like talking to someone you trust, can lead you to solving your problem or at least feeling better. Try taking these four steps the next time you are stressed:

Get support.

Don’t take it out on yourself.

Try to solve the problem.

After you are calm and have support from adults and friends, it’s time to work out the problem. Even if you can’t solve it all, you can solve a piece of it.
