How do animals live in the cold winter? They do many different and amazing things to get through the winter.

Some of them “migrate (迁徙)”. This means they travel to other places where the weather is warmer or they can find food. 【小题1】 The trip can be dangerous, so some animals travel in large groups. Other kinds of birds fly alone.

Some animals keep active in winter. They must fit the changing weather. 【小题2】 To keep warm, animals may grow thicker fur in autumn. Some animals begin to collect their winter food in autumn. When it’s very cold, they stay in their homes. 【小题3】 Squirrels collect seeds and nuts. They’re safe and warm in their homes in winter.

Winter is cold in northern countries. Some animals are smart. They can spend winter safely.

Dogs like living with people. They are very friendly. They can do many things for people. Some dogs help people to look after sheep, other dogs help them to find the lost children. And some of the dogs can help the blind (盲人). They are the Seeing Eve dogs. They work for the blind. Now we can see this kind of dogs all over the world.

The Seeing Eye dog is strong and easy to train (训练). He helps the blind to walk from place to place. Before a dog becomes a Seeing Eye dog, it must go to a training school for about three months.

First, the dog has to learn to sit or stay when he hears the trainer’s (训练师) call. In his next lesson, the dog learns to take his trainer across busy streets. The dog has many things to learn. At the end of the training school, he must take tests (测试). When it passes the test, it can become the Seeing Eye dog.

The new master may be a man, a woman, or even a child. It takes the dog and his blind master about a month to learn to work and live together.

On Thanksgiving Day, about 88 percent of Americans eat turkey. But one lucky turkey not only will not be eaten but also will become famous. Every year, turkey farmers present turkeys to the US president. But instead of eating this turkey, the president gives it a “Pardon”. The turkey is flown to Florida for a thanksgiving Parade (游行). Then it lives on the farm for the rest of its life.

Turkeys come from America and have been part of American culture for centuries.Benjamin Franklin even wanted the turkey to be America’s national bird.

Turkeys that are kept on farms are large, awkward birds that cannot fly. But wild turkeys are quite fast. They can fly at speed up to 88 kilometers per hour. They can also run at 40 kilometers per hour.

Turkeys don’t have ears. They hear by using the growth of beaks (尖喙). But their hearing is about five times better than human hearing.

Turkeys are such interesting birds. No wonder Benjamin Franklin wanted them to be American national birds.
