Little Mary is a good girl. She began to go to school last year and now she’s in Grade 2. Her home is not far from the school, but she is often late for class because she watches TV and listens to the music in the evening and goes to bed very late. So she can’t get up on time in the morning.
This term Mr. White, Mary’s uncle, works in her school. He teaches Grade 2 history. He is very strict, of course, with Mary, too. He often tells Mary to keep the school rules and come to school on time.
Today Mary gets up late again. When she goes to school, it is 8:15. Her uncle is waiting for(等待) her at the school gate. “You’re ten minutes late for the first class.” Mr. White is very unhappy. “Why are you often late for class?” “Every time when I get near school, I always see a sign(标志).It says “SCHOOL—GO SLOW!(慢行)”said Mary.

On Feb 12, Dalian (not his real name) was taking a train to Changsha, Hunan, for a business trip. While on the train, he went into a carriage (车厢) to have lunch and chose to remain in the carriage. He didn't know that the carriage was only for people heading to Wuhan.
Several hours later, when the train arrived in Wuhan, Dalian was asked to get off, as he was in the special carriage. Although he was surprised, he didn't want to cause trouble and got off the carriage with just a single bag.
Because of the epidemic, Wuhan had been locked down. So Dalian couldn't find a hotel to stay in. Feeling at a loss, he saw a notice online looking for volunteers to work in hospitals. Dalian decided to give it a try.
He soon became a volunteer in Wuhan No.1 Hospital. He was responsible for (对……负责) taking out rubbish, sweeping the floor, disinfecting (消毒) the hospital, dealing with used protective suits (防护服) and bringing meals to patients.

Dalian was afraid of getting infected at first. "When I entered the wards (病房), I was kind of frozen (僵硬的) and felt like I couldn't move," he said. But after he saw more patients get better, his fear gradually went away.

My dad was in the radio business when I was growing up. He always got tickets to a lot of different sporting events, and in 1984 we went to Madison Square Garden during Michael Jordan’s rookie season (新秀赛季). My dad took me to see Jordan put on a show.
I remember looking at my dad as an eight-year-old kid and saying, “I want to be Michael Jordan one day.” Dad laughed a bit and then turned to me and said, “Son, I love you, but you’re probably not going to be Michael Jordan.” Then my dad pointed to the man standing next to Jordan at the time, his agent David Falk. My dad explained how Falk worked closely with players, and since then, that’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.
Years passed and I became a sports agent. My Job is simply to help professional players find jobs. No two days are the same, which I find exciting. If it’s in-season, I’m talking to players about how they are feeling and how they’re performing from week to week. During the off-season, I try to make sure players’ lives are managed, so they can focus on (专注于) improving on the field.
Not everyone can be a sports star, but it’s more possible to work on the business side of sports. I always tell the students I meet to go out of their way to introduce themselves to people. Relationships are so important in this business, and they can take you a long way.

We thought that would be the last of the beaver's busy activity as winter came. To our amazement, however, he started chewing(咀嚼) on a very large tree. The tree was over 18 metres tall and around 1.5 metres in diameter(直径). We were amazed at the challenge(挑战) this beaver was trying. All winter, he chewed and chewed. He had setbacks(挫折) as we faced major winter storms and ice cold weather. But sure enough, when the weather allowed, he would come back and chew a bit more.
The beaver's first goal(目标) was to survive(生存)—to build home for the winter. Working every day with that goal in mind, he successfully achieved that goal. But the large tree he started chewing on last fall was a future goal—he wanted the large tree to provide new food and branches(树枝) for the coming spring. Even with the setbacks he faced over the winter, he never gave up until he reached it.
Our beaver's experience reminds us that we need to set goals for tomorrow. Sometimes just surviving seems to take up all of our time. But, if you do just a little bit when time allows and stick to your future goal, you will achieve it.
When faced with setbacks, have your goal in heart and don't let the setbacks stop you. Keep chewing like the beaver, and you will achieve(实现;获得) your goal in the end.
