Mr and Mrs Turner are both lazy. Mr Turner likes sleeping. Mrs Turner likes dancing.He often tells her to do housework, but she doesn’t listen to him. Old Mrs Turner has to do all the housework for them.

Once the old woman was ill and had to be in hospital. Her daughter went to look after her there. Two months later, the old woman came back, all their rooms were in a mess(乱成一团) .She told her son to do it. But he didn’t. On a Saturday evening, Mrs Turner wanted to dance. She began to look for her sweater. She saw Mr Turner watching TV and asked him to help her. But he didn’t listen to her.

“Our sheet isn’t clean,” said the woman, “you’d better wash it tomorrow.”.

“Turn it over,”said the man.

“How lazy you are!” said the woman, “I turned it over one month ago.”

It was Saturday. Mindy was getting ready for her 14th birthday party. In just three hours, all of her friends would arrive with presents and excitement. Every year, Mindy and her mum made a fresh cake on this big day. Excited, Mindy waited for her mum in the kitchen.

Mindy's mum came into the kitchen and picked up her apron(围裙). Instead of putting it on, she lifted it over Mindy's head.

“Mindy, I think you're old enough to make the cake yourself this year. Remember what we said?”

“Yes… I guess …”

“OK. Now, go ahead and start. I'm going to blow up the balloons. ” With that, Mindy's mum left Mindy alone in the kitchen.

Carefully, Mindy made the cake herself. Her mum helped her put the pan(平底锅) into the oven and set the temperature.

When the cake came out, though, something seemed wrong. Mindy tried to poke(戳) it with a fork, but the fork couldn't go through.The cake was almost as hard as a rock!

“I did exactly what I was supposed to,” Mindy said sadly. “I was so careful! I measured the baking soda(小苏打) exactly.”

“Baking soda? Oh, dear. That's the problem. You were supposed to use baking powder(发酵粉).”

Mindy began to cry. “I'm sorry, mum. I tried so hard.”

Mindy's mum gave her a big hug. “I'm the one who's sorry. I expected too much and I was hard on you. Now, let's try again. This time, we'll do it together.”

Mindy laughed, and her mum laughed, too.

Some animals live in the same community. They like to get together and talk about their great dreams.

A small bird says, “I have a good voice. I can make beautiful sounds. I want to be a great singer like Tan Jing. People will love my songs.” A young horse says, “I am good at running. I can run faster than Liu Xiang. I want to be the best runner some day. I will win a gold medal.”

A smart tiger says, “I’m the king of the forest. I’m very strong. I want to become an engineer like Qian Xuesen. I can work for people.”

A lovely monkey says, “I’m going to be a manager like Bill Gates. I want to have a big fruit company of my own. Welcome to my company!”

An old giraffe shouts, “Be quiet! Listen to me, everyone. It’s good for you to have your own dreams. But you always talk about them. Why don’t you do something to make them come true?”

After they hear those words, all the animals run away.
