Eddie was on a family trip on Hawaii’s Big Island when the terrible wildfires occurred in the island of Maui, killing 115 people and destroying the town of Lahaina. He overheard the disaster (灾难) while watching TV.

“It was Wednesday afternoon, we had the news on, and he asked me to turn it off because he said that made him too sad,” Eddie’s mother, Ami, told USA TODAY. “At that point, I realized he was really paying attention and listening, and we needed to actually solve it. I hadn’t really intended to tell him about it, because we thought he was still a kid. But what happened next proved that we were wrong.”

Ami shared how their family had stayed in Lahaina earlier that year. While it was difficult for Eddie to understand the disaster at a young age, he wanted to help people in any way he could.

Eddie shared the idea of starting a stand and giving all the money to support casualties. Ami and her husband immediately supported the idea and set up a lemonade stand on Saturday on their busy Seattle street.

The stand ran from 10 am to 6 pm. It sold lemonade, ice cream sandwiches and even some of Eddie’s toys. Lemonade was sold for a dollar each, but most people gave $5, $10 and $20 bills as part of their donation (捐赠) .

The family also posted videos on social media and told their friends and family. To their surprise, their one-day business found success quickly. Back-to-back cars would line up to buy and many donated online. The stand made over $17,000, including online donations.

Eddie had a great time in the whole process. Struck by how his generosity invited others to be generous, Ami and her husband are proud of Eddie’s creativity and generosity and happy to support his positive ideas.

A woman whose sports car was stolen with her dog in it put up notices all over the area that made it clear getting back her pet was more important than her car.

“Whoever did this can keep my car. Please let Benjerman come home,” the notice said.

It is not known whether the thief showed any pity, but almost 30 hours after the 1 pm theft Friday, Kimberly Atkins of Dover and Benjerman, a 12-year-old black retriever(猎犬), were reunited after police located them in Barrington.

“He’s hungry, he’s dirty, but he’s very happy to be home,” Atkins said.

The car was found at about 5 pm Saturday off Route 125 in a swampy area frequented by off-the-road cars and dirt bikes. However, the police couldn’t control Benjerman, and they had to call Atkins to come and get him.

Atkins said the thief cared for Benjerman a little by providing him with some dry cat food. She believed Benjerman ended up drinking some muddy water in the area.

She said they have been together for nearly 11 years after she took him back from a society shelter in Dallas, Texas.

Before Benjerman was found, Atkins and several friends put up notices all over the city and in Somersworth. They also contacted animal shelters throughout southern New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

The notice stated there was a reward, and also that the dog needed medication(药物治疗). Any caller could remain anonymous(匿名的).

Atkins had parked the car outside a hardware store with the keys inside and gone in to rent a carpet cleaner.

“It was 10 minutes and I came out and my car was gone along with Benjerman in broad daylight,” Atkins said. The car thief threw Atkins’ wallet and other personal items out of the car before escaping from the scene.

Aerial (空中的）performer Jennifer Bricker was born without legs, but she never let it stop her.

Wrapped in a loop (圈）of red silk hung from the ceiling, Jennifer Bricker climbs and twists to the music. Her head hangs down and her strong arms let go as she balances on her back, high above the ground — a move that is all the more daring because she has no legs.

Jennifer was a few months old when she was adopted by Sharon and Gerald Bricker. She had big brown eyes, a bright smile, and huge amounts of energy. When a doctor advised her adoptive parents to carry her around in a kind of bucket (桶)，they refused.

Jennifer soon learned to walk and run on her hands and bottom, and grew up fearlessly climbing trees and bouncing on the trampoline (蹦床）with her three older brothers.“My parents didn’t treat me differently so I didn’t grasp the concept that I was different .1 knew I didn't have legs but that wasn’t stopping me from doing the things I wanted to do.”

At the age of three she was fitted with artificial legs, but she never really took to them she moved more freely without them.

In 1996 the Olympic Games took place in Atlanta. Jennifer loved to watch the women's gymnastics team, and especially adored the 14-year-old Dominique Moceanu who competed for the US. When Moceanu and the women’s team won the gold, Jennifer decided she was going to be a gymnast, too. She took up power tumbling, which involves performing floor exercises down a runway. But Jennifer did not want any allowances to be made for her disability.

At the age of 10 she took part in the Junior Olympics and by age 11 she was the tumbling champion for the state of Illinois.

Jennifer now travels the world as an inspirational speaker and acts as an aerial performer.
