Last week，all the teachers and students of our school watched a special performance by some disabled people.The first program was a dance named “The light of life”.To my surprise，all the dancers had lost one of their legs.As they were performing，I could see how they had to face so many difficulties.However，they showed us many wonderful programs.From these programs，I could see how lively their minds were.

The two persons who came out nextshockedus all.The first one was a singer.He was very young but unfortunately he had lost both of his hands in a big fire.The song he brought us was “Late Autumn” and he sang it in such a low and sweet voice.Though it was warm spring， I felt a little cold when I heard the song as if it was really late autumn.“How much love and feeling is hidden in my heart? I wish to hold your hands again.” Hearing this，I couldn’t keep back my tears.

The other one was also a young man.He lost both of his arms when he was six.From then on，his feet became his “hands”.However，he could manage a number of things with his feet.What moved us most was his feet writing.The two words “Flying High” expressed his wishes.

“If your wings are gone，your heart can still fly，” said Zhang Haidi，a disabled writer.

In the world，there are many disabled people，yet most of them don't give in.They have strong wishes and beautiful dreams.Just as Zhang Haidi said they could fly.

Disability doesn't mean complete failure.Once you try hard，miracles（奇迹）will happen sooner or later.I believe where there is a will，there is a way.

Choosing a university

Mymain reason for coming here was the Human Rights course. When I was at school I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to be a doctor or a lawyer, but having decided to be a lawyer, I then had to choose which first degree I should take before starting, law school in another city, I’ve always wanted to help people and I figured that taking Human Rights would allow me to learn about how I can make a real difference in the world.

I love maths. I was tom between two possibilities: I could become an engineer and apply maths at a practical level. Or I could become a maths teacher, I needn’t have worried because in the end I didn’t have to choose! I got everything I wanted thanks to my university, which will qualify me to be a high school teacher while gaining a general engineering degree at the same time.

One of the reasons I chose this university was because of the effort that they put into organizing the open day. The lecturers and current students provide an enthusiastic overview of their courses and of life in the city. This was in contrast to other universities I visited, which just let their reputation do the talking. Although I chose not to live on campus, the rooms there seemed comfortable and very reasonably priced.

When the time came to select the university, I had three possibilities, but I still could not decide. So it was time to schedule campus tours. They all had their advantages, but this place instantly appealed to me. As soon as I arrived, I was struck by the smiles everyone gave me. What I value most here is the feeling that I am part of a supportive community.

On the first day of my new high school, I almost had a nervous breakdown. Everything about the school seemed so difficult. When I got home, my parents said, “You’re nervous and that’s okay. Everyone is afraid of high school.” I denied it. I wanted to be strong, so I refused to let anyone know about my fear, even my closest friends.

On the first day I was late for every class and was constantly lost. The school seemed like a puzzle that I couldn’t figure out. Was this how the whole year was going to be? I didn’t think I could rise to this challenge, especially carrying a huge backpack that I could hardly lift. It was so big that I could knock someone out with it!

Despite my fears, after the first week I finally had my schedule figured out. With the exception of falling up and down the stairs a couple of times and getting laughed at, high school was turning out to be not so bad. It was actually much better than middle school and much more challenging. Since then, I’ve been elected (选举) the vice monitor of my class, which wasn’t much of a victory since only three people ran for the four positions.

It is normal to be scared of a new school. Take a deep breath and relax. High school is not so frightening. Make sure you participate in some out­of­class activities because you’ll find it easier to make friends. Try to do your best, even if it isn’t straight A’s.

Most important of all, be who you are, whether you’re a“fool”， an athlete, or a lower grader. Don’t try to pretend to be someone you’re not. Now you know the secret of my success.
