China has once again proved its 【小题1】 (able)to change the world with the “four new inventions”: high-speed rail, mobile payment, bike-sharing and e-commerce.

“My wallet is no longer in use. I can buy and eat whatever I want simply with a fingertip on my phone,” said 【小题4】 university student, 【小题5】 (add)that “even pancake sellers are using mobile payment”.

The bikes themselves are not new, but the operating mode of bike-sharing 【小题6】 (base)on the satellite navigation system, mobile payment, big data and other high technologies.

A robot has been taught to laugh at jokes to make it more human. Researchers are using AI to train robots about appropriate laughter, and 【小题1】 (distinguish)between chuckles and screams.

They described 【小题2】 (work)with a robot called Erica in the hope of making a conversation more natural. “We think that one of the important 【小题3】 (function)of conversational Al is sympathy,” said Dr Koji Inoue, a professor. “A conversation is, of course, multimodal, not just responding correctly. So we decided that one way a robot can empathize (共情)with users is to share their laughter, 【小题4】 you cannot do with a text-based chatbot.”

Creating a “ 【小题5】 (share)laughter” model, the researchers used AI to help detect laughter and decide whether to laugh and what kind of laughter would be 【小题6】 (good). Four short dialogues between real people and Erica 【小题7】 (use)to test the system, which performed well.

However, the experts said there is more work to do to create 【小题8】 (true)natural laughter situations.

Dr Inoue said, “The robot should actually have 【小题9】 distinct character, and it can show this character through its conversational behaviors, such as laughing, ye gaze, gestures and speaking styles. It may well take more than 10 to 20 years before we can finally have a casual chat 【小题10】 a robot like we would with a friend.”

Recently, scientists from Britain and Canada have created super-clever mice by 【小题2】(change) a single gene (基因). In the study, 【小题3】(research) changed one of the mice’s genes to stop the PDE4B enzyme (酶), a substance found in the human brain, 【小题4】 working.
