Yesang village is regarded as the birthplace of Tibetan woodblock art, a tradition that 【小题1】 (pass) down for more than 340 years.

The village, 【小题2】 (locate) in Polo township of Joda county in Tibet, has more than 60 woodblock artists. It lies in a remote valley far from the county’s downtown. 【小题3】 takes more than three hours of driving on the mountainous roads to get there, and the journey requires both 【小题4】 (drive) skill and courage.

Yesang is near a historical printing house of Tibetan Buddhism scriptures. More than 80 percent of the printing house’s woodblocks were produced in Yesang, according to 【小题5】(villager).

“Three-hundred years ago, a great master called Kolha Lugye 【小题6】 (begin) the tradition of woodblock art in our village, after 【小题7】 the tradition has been passed on for generations. Therefore, our village has contributed 【小题8】(great) to Tibetan cultural preservation,” said Tashi Tsephel, an instructor of the Woodblock art in Yesang.

Tsultrim Darje, another woodblock artist in the village, works 【小题9】 average of 11 hours a day. Each year, he works more than eight months on the woodblocks. “I earn about 40,000 yuan ($5,800) every year from working on the woodblocks,” Tsultrim Darje said.

“Every woodblock costs between 400 yuan and 800 yuan based 【小题10】 its quality, and I can finish four per month.”

An event featuring papercutting, 【小题1】aims to familiarize students with traditional Chinese culture through intangible cultural heritage, 【小题2】(hold) on Wednesday at the Second Primary School of Fengning Manchu autonomous county in Chengde city, North China’s Hebei province. Guo Fengzhi, one of the 【小题3】(inheritor) of Fengning papercutting, instructs students on paper-cutting techniques, 【小题4】(include) folding, cutting and engraving.

Fengning Manchu papercutting, which dates back to the Qing Dynasty (1644—1911), has 【小题5】(distinction) cultural characteristics and ethnic style. It was listed as 【小题6】 national-level intangible cultural heritage in 2006. In 2009, it was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In recent years, Fengning county 【小题7】(take) the school as a base for the inheritance of traditional culture. 【小题8】 offering intangible cultural heritage courses such as paper-cutting, students are guided 【小题9】(understand) and care about intangible cultural heritage, and then 【小题10】(active) participate in the promotion of Fengning’s traditional culture.

The Three-River-Source National Park 【小题5】 (locate) on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau—known as the world’s “third pole”. The Giant Panda National Park protects the major habitats of 70 percent of the country’s wild giant pandas. The Hainan Rainforest National Park is home to China’s largest rainforest and the Hainan gibbon. The Wuyi Mountain National Park experimental area is the only park in China 【小题6】 is listed as a UNESCO cultural and 【小题7】 (nature) heritage site.
