This is the River Thames. It is almost 346 kilometres long, and is the second 【小题1】（long）river in Great Britain. It flows through London, and it’s this part of the river that most 【小题2】（tourist）see.

But by the 1980s, most of the docks had closed and the area became run-down. A lot of money has been invested in this huge riverside area. And today it is 【小题7】（know）as “ Docklands” . The old water houses are now 【小题8】（attract）apartments. There are new office buildings, shopping centres and leisure facilities, too. People live and work by the river 【小题9】（happy）.

A group of students from England have come to the Zhoukoudian caves 【小题1】 a visit. There was 【小题2】 archaeologist showing them round.

The archaeologists have been excavating there for many years. After 【小题3】 (find) human and animal bones in those caves higher up the hill as well as tools and other objects, they think it is reasonable 【小题4】 (assume) these humans lived in these caves, regardless of the cold. They have discovered fireplaces in the centre of the caves 【小题5】 they made fires, which could make them warm, and help them cook and scare wild beasts away. There some students found a needle and felt 【小题6】 (confuse). The archaeologist explained that they had found some evidence that suggested that those ancestors 【小题7】 (wear) clothes made from animal skins.

The archaeologist also showed the students a primitive necklace preserved 【小题8】 (extreme) well. Indeed, as the botanical 【小题9】 (analysis) have shown them, all the fields around there used to be part of a large shallow lake. And he also explained how the seashells got there-perhaps there was trade between early peoples 【小题10】 they travelled to the seaside on their journeys.

From this travel, these students learned a lot and had a good time.

The Hangzhou government also provides free public bikes for tourists 【小题10】 (travel) around the lake. The parks around the lake are all free to visit.
