Imagine being given the opportunity to wake up to lions, eat your meals with monkeys, and even share your bath with bears, all from the comfort of a unique new lodging experience.

The Jamala Wildlife Lodge opened its doors in January 2015, which was set up in an effort to educate visitors about aiding the survival of many of the world’s endangered species.

“It’s great for the animals; they’re going to get more space. It’s great for the viewing public; they’re going to get more things to see. It will be great for tourism and just for the local community,” said Richard Tindale, the owner and operator.

Spreading across three locations in the National Zoo, the 18 rooms, which range from giraffe tree houses to jungle bungalows, offer a fantastic experience with wildlife.

The Giraffe Treehouse

The Giraffe Treehouse is set among the giraffe enclosures, and the Jungle Bungalows are luxurious individual houses which are next to either lion, cheetah(猎豹), brown bear, or Malaysian sun bear enclosures.

The Ushaka House

Housing up to 26 people, the Ushaka House is built around the monkey enclosure and has a built-in aquarium which offers private views of some of the zoo’s sharks.

The Burley Griffin House

Only meters from the edge of Lake Burley Griffin, the indoor and outdoor entertaining areas have splendid views across the lake to Black Mountain.

The Shark House

The Shark House has its own little jetty(码头) and it comes out over the shark tank here and so the people who stay in the room will be able to go to their bedroom and pat the shark.

Location

Located in the heart of Australia’s political capital, the Jamala Wildlife Lodge at the National Zoo and Aquarium is just ten minutes from Canberra’s Central Business District.

Of Special Interest to Freshman

Freshman Seminars

Freshman Seminars are small classes just for freshmen, with some of York’s most distinguished teachers. Some seminars provide an introduction to a particular field of study; others take an interdisciplinary (跨学科的) approach to a variety of topics. All seminars provide a friendly environment for developing relationships with teachers and other students.

STARS

STARS (Science, Technology, and Research Scholars) provides undergraduates of every year with an opportunity to combine research and course-based study. The program offers research opportunities and support to students historically disadvantaged in the fields of natural science and quantitative reasoning, such as racial and ethnic minorities, women, and the physically challenged. More than 100 students each year participate in STARS, during the academic year or over the summer months.

Academic Advising

Academic Advising is a collective effort by the residential colleges, academic departments and various offices connected to York University Dean’s (院长的) office. Students’ primary academic advisors are their residential college deans, to whom they may always turn for academic and personal advice. The deans live in residential colleges and supervise the advising networks in the college. Each academic department has a director of undergraduate studies (DUS) who can discuss with students the department’s course offerings and requirements for majors.

Perspectives on Science and Engineering

Perspectives on Science and Engineering is a lecture and discussion course for about 75 selected freshmen who have exceptionally strong backgrounds in science or mathematics. The yearlong course explores a broad range of topics, exposes students to questions at the frontiers of science, and connects the first-year students to York’s Scientific Community.

While silver-glassed mirrors still serve a useful purpose when reflecting your image back to you, some fashion and beauty leaders figured that if you added smart technology to mirrors, they could elevate(提升) the customer’s experience. This vision is now a reality thanks to the significant advances in artificial intelligence(AI), augmented reality (AR), and gesture recognition technology. Several smart mirrors have been created and applied in our daily life.

Wella Professionals Smart Mirror

Wella Professionals Smart Mirror is Coty's version of smart mirror that had won the CES 2019 Innovation Awards. This mirror allows stylists to provide more personalized suggestions. It is able to do a live AR hair color try on and can provide a 360-degree of the style so the customer can see what it will look like from all angles. In addition, using facial recognition technology (FRT), it can search past styles for each customer, allowing the stylist and client to really assess what works and what doesn't.

Memory Mirror

Memory Mirror, a digital mirror created by Memo Mi, combines a full-length mirror with high-tech including a 70-inch LCD, computer and HD camera that can record videos so you can save, share and review your try-on sessions.

Sephora 3D AR Mirror

Sephora is a beauty retailer that offers a 3D augmented reality mirror. Customers trying out different products can move their faces from side to side, and the highlighted eye shadow or lipstick stays where it is supposed to create a very realistic effect. The technology is expected to not only enhance the customer experience but drive sales. When it's easier to experiment with different looks, it makes it easier to discover new products to purchase.

SenseMi’s Virtual Dressing Mirror

While your haircut, hair color and makeup choices are important for your overall look, SenseMi expanded the makeover capabilities to create a virtual dressing mirror, too. The company's smart mirror is used in retail stores, and there's a home version that allows you to “try” on clothes digitally.

Artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality (VR) will help to make retail stores more interactive(互动的) and the online experience more real-life. Perhaps more importantly, with the help of smart mirrors, the days of bad haircuts and color and makeup choices will be a thing of the past.

Frances Stevens Reese Wooldland Trail Guide

The Woodland Trail was opened to the public on October 21, 1997. Boscobel’s Board of Directors adopted a formal decision of naming the Woodland Trail in honor of former Boscobel board member, Fances Stevens Reese (1917-2003), one year after his death.

The trail(小径) is approximately 10 miles in length, leading down to Constitution Forest. When the West Point Glass Factory was operating during the Civil War, trees for miles around were cleared to provide firewood. Walking out of the forest, you will find a large mass of native hard rock about three billion years old.

Throughout this country path, you will find picture boards identifying birds and plants local to this region. You will also find signs with historic and environmental information written by area specialists.

When you take a walk through this “undiscovered” forest land, please be a considerate guest.

Before walking the trail, please purchase a pass in the Carriage House. Plan ahead, so you will be back by closing time.

Follow the trail markers and remain on the trail. Besides protecting the fragile forest ecosystem, you will reduce the risk of poison plants and snakes.

Leave rocks, plants, animals and art works where you see them so that the person behind you can have the same experience.

Carry out whatever you carry in because there are no rubbish containers on the trail. If you happen to see a piece of litter, be a good guest and pick it up.

【小题1】When was the trail named to honor Frances Stevens Reese?
A.In 1997.B.In 1917
C.In 2003D.In 2004
【小题2】What can you see along the trail?
A.An old battle field.B.A glass factory.
C.Information signs.D.Rock houses.
【小题3】What should you do as a thoughtful visitor?
A.Leave the wildlife undisturbed.
B.Throw the rubbish into the dustbins.
C.Make reservations in the Carriage House.
D.Protect the markers of the Woodland Trail.
