Tom Owen, from Haverfordwest, joined the Pembrokeshire Lifeguards last summer, 【小题1】 (become) its most senior member at 49.

He is being joined on Broadhaven beach by the team’s 【小题2】 (new) recruit—his 16-year-old boy, Cai. Tom.

Tom said he became interested in being a lifeguard while at school, and 【小题4】 (volunteer) for two summers in Australia. “I don't feel out of place despite the 30-year age gap 【小题5】 me and most of others. It's 【小题6】 (huge) satisfying to know I'm helping to provide a safe place for all to use.”

Meanwhile, 【小题7】 (ask) whether seeing his dad being a lifeguard played a factor in his decision, Cai replied,

“It's something I've wanted to do for years because I've always been a keen swimmer and surfer,” he added. “I’m looking forward to getting experience on the beaches, 【小题8】 is going to be fun. I can't wait 【小题9】 (see) him continue to try to beat me in our fitness tests.”

“It’ll be nice to spend time together before he grows up completely. I hope other people of my age see that being lifeguards isn't just for teenagers. If you're still fit and healthy, give it a go, and you won't regret 【小题10】 ” said Tom.

It was Mother's Day morning last year. My five­year­old son, Tenyson, and I 【小题1】 (leave)the supermarket after shopping when an old woman fell over at the entrance and hit her head on the ground. Her husband was with her, but the woman was 【小题2】   (serious) hurt and shaking with pain.

At the front of the supermarket a charity (慈善) group was selling flowers to raise funds. Tenyson suggested that we 【小题3】 ( buy) the lady a flower. “It will make 【小题4】   feel better，” he said. I was amazed that he'd come up 【小题5】   such a sweet idea. So we went to the flower seller to buy a flower for the lady.

By now rescuers had arrived, and were attending the 【小题6】 (injure)woman. As we walked up to her, my son became frightened by all the blood and medical 【小题7】(equip). He said he was just too scared to go up to her.

Instead I gave the flower to the woman's husband 【小题8】   told him, “ My son was very upset for your wife and bought her this flower to cheer her up.”

At that, the old man was moved and said, “Thank you so much, you have a good son. Happy Mother's Day to you.”

The man then gave his wife the flower, 【小题9】 (tell) her who it was from. 【小题10】   badly hurt, the old lady looked up at Tenyson with thanks in her eyes and gave him a little smile.

The Beloved Community in Denver is the city’s first tiny home village for the homeless. The village provides shelter for up to 22 people. It 【小题1】 （found）by community partners, private donors（捐赠者）and various organizations.

The village, 【小题2】 will begin the 180-day pilot project this year, is to provide meals, a shower house, portable toilets and 【小题3】 couple of gardens. The self-governed village will help to develop a sense of self-esteem and communal living for people who have long lived on the edge of society.

The Beloved Community aims to build two more villages, providing housing for a total of 300 homeless people 【小题4】 all over the city. The residents will be able to feel part of a community, get back 【小题5】（they） confidence and feel at home in a safe environment.

49-year-old Jamiah Rawls thinks the town should inspire the homeless 【小题6】（feel）better. “The village should be 【小题7】（comfort）to live in, so that they can feel confident enough and pull themselves up 【小题8】（gradual）. And the village needs to give them some assistance 【小题9】 they can live on their own.”

The village will offer people their 【小题10】 （free）and a space, where they can rediscover their goals.
