Some Facebook users are able to order food and buy tickets on the social media site. The new service was launched in the United States. Facebook designed it as a new way of building bridges between its users and commercial organizations where they live.

This idea is not new. There are many smart phone applications that already let users search, order and buy many different products and services. But Facebook’s service is a little different. It lets users share information about their favorite places and things with family and friends. Facebook says its new tool makes it easier for users to organize their friends’ favorite places and things in one place.

When users write Facebook posts seeking advice on local places or services, they can choose whether or not to turn on the new feature called Recommendations. If a user turns this on, Facebook friends can then comment on those posts and give suggestions. It also allows users to order food and buy tickets. Users can also go directly to a Recommendations bookmark on Facebook to ask a new question or to offer help to their friends. The new service lets people order food directly from the Facebook pages of some restaurants. Users can also purchase tickets to movies, music events or other activities. They can also make appointments for personal services, such as getting a haircut.

Facebook is testing the service in the United States. It plans to offer it to international users in the future. The new service is part of recent efforts by Facebook to expand its offerings and get people to spend more time using the social media app. It announces a new era(时代) to Facebook, which also means a kind of convenience for people.

It is now February 7, 2035. The search engine TalkTalk will be open to the public next week and this service will soon be something beyond your imagination. For the first time you can not only talk to the search engine, but you can discuss with it what you are looking for.

For example, if you want to know more about the oil price, TalkTalk asks if you want to know the current oil price, the development of the oil price, or news related to the oil price. You say that you want to read news about it and TalkTalk then directs you to your source, or lets you have the latest news related to the oil price in order from the most respectable sources.

Compared with other search services that use a certain algorithm (程序) to provide data from a search, the artificial intelligence behind TalkTalk is said to easily spot if a certain source is aiming to cheat the searcher. TalkTalk also judges and stores every given reply and discussion, to learn how to give correct answers. TalkTalk is also set to answer questions directly where there is a definite answer. How well this will work in the long run is yet to be seen, but thousands of people have tested TalkTalk and the quality is really good.

The first talking search engine saw the light of day more than 30 years ago and was called Speegle. It could read the results from a written search on the Internet, and was mostly for blind people.

So far, TalkTalk cannot read the information from a certain source to you by phone, if it is not freely available. There are currently talks to find an arrangement for this, but it would most likely be difficult because of copyright (版权).

TalkTalk is available over the Internet and also by phone, even though it only speaks English. There are no plans to add other languages in the near future, most likely because it will cost a lot of money. When you are tired of asking TalkTalk all your questions, just ask, “Where is TalkTalk?” and you will get an answer that will make you leave it with a smile on your lips.

【小题1】The example in Paragraph 2 is given to show ________.

【小题2】The advantage of TalkTalk is that it can ________.
A.be available wherever you go.B.tell if a certain source is reliable.
C.read the search results for you.D.offer different kinds of search results.
【小题3】What can be inferred from the text?
A.TalkTalk can read all the information online.B.TalkTalk will speak other languages soon.
C.TalkTalk may have a bright future.D.TalkTalk is very expensive.
【小题4】What would be the best title for the text?
A.Hello, TalkTalk.B.Where is TalkTalk.
C.TalkTalk is improving.D.Development of search engines.

Join #ReadWithMC: Marie Claire’s Virtual Women’s Monthly Book Club

Exchanging the ideas of reading can be exciting. But between busy schedules and the problems life throws at us, it’s not so easy to make it to a book club regularly. That’s why we’ve come up with a way for you to get some much-needed reading done on your own time and meet some new friends along the way — straight from your couch.

What is #ReadWithMC?

#ReadWithMC is an online monthly book club created by the Marie Claire editors. We’ll pick a book, you’ll read it. Then, we’ll curate a collection of honest, authentic reviews and recommendations from you and other #ReadWithMC participants and publish them on the site.

How do I participate?

Buy the book, then start reading with us on the 1st (or before, if you want to get a little head start). Submit your reviews on Twitter or Instagram by the 28th with the hashtag (话题标签) #ReadWithMC to potentially have your review featured on the site.

You can submit your review via your Twitter or Instagram account, but it must be a public one rather than a private one for us to see the hashtag and have it considered for the site. Or you can simply leave your review on one of our #ReadWithMC Instagram posts. Your reviews may be condensed and edited for clarity, and will be chosen based on content and volume. If you submit a review with the hashtag #ReadWithMC, you agree to be considered for inclusion in a collection of reviews on the site. Only reviews submitted by the 28th of each month will be considered.

What type of books will we read in the future?

We will be reading relatively new books, i.e. books published within the past few months — most will be novels, but some may be memoirs or essay collections. No matter what, we guarantee they’ll make you laugh, smile, cry or all of the above.

When will the next book be announced?

Starting January 1, we’ll be reading The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell. February’s book will be announced on January 25, so you’ll have enough time to purchase the book before the reading begins on the 1st.

Is it wrong to use someone else’s wireless(Wi-Fi) connection? Just recently, a man was arrested for doing just that. At that time, he was sitting in the street with a laptop and using an unsecured wireless connection to surf the Net. What do you think about this topic? Listen to the following different views on it.

For a start, if someone is using your Internet service or downloading, this will affect your speed of access or download limit. Also, it’s bad for Internet service providers. They will suffer in the long run because fewer people will pay for an Internet service if they know they can get it for free. And finally, just imagine this: what if the person who is stealing your Internet connection is involved in an illegal activity? I think the police are totally right to arrest these criminals.

—by Sandra Wilkins

Basically, if the person who paid for the service still has everything they paid for, what’s the problem? It’s just like using the light from streetlamps to read your book, or watching someone else’s firework display. It’s not stealing.

Also, if you leave your wireless connection unsecured, then it is your own fault if someone else uses it. Just as you wouldn’t leave your front door unlocked, or your car door open, neither should you leave your wireless connection open. By leaving your wireless connection open, you are inviting people to use it. Securing your wireless connection is as easy as clicking a few settings on your router. And finally, haven’t the police got more important crimes to solve? They’re always saying how they haven’t got the manpower to solve real issues. But this is just ridiculous.
