Last summer, I went to work as a volunteer teacher in a small village, that is located in the south of our country. The children there were all from poor families, but they didn’t have nice clothes to wear or food eat. They had to do much housework as our parents had gone to work in cities to make money. They had to take care for their little brothers or sisters. They live a hard life. But they were eager to learn less about the outside world. When asking about their dreams, they gave me the same answer. They said they hoped they could return to their small villages after graduating from college to make their hometown the more beautiful.

My favorite English novel is Pride and Prejudice, which author is Jane Austen. In this novel, there is a girl called Elizabeth and rich gentleman naming Mr. Darcy. At first, they don’t like each other, especially Elizabeth. She thinks Mr. Darcy is rather proud and had done something cruel, so she hates Mr. Darcy. Thus, Mr. Darcy, somehow, falls in love with her and proposes to her. To her surprise, Elizabeth refuses, because she has made up her mind that she will never marry with the man no matter how rich he is unless she truly loves him. Later, Elizabeth realizes what Mr. Darcy is very kind and not proud at all. She hates him just due to her prejudice. Maybe you can guess the end of this novel: they get married and led a happy life.

It’s said Pride and Prejudice is the most popular English novel in the world. If you haven’t read it, I strong recommend it to you.

There are too many classic literary works we should read that it’s hard to know where to start. Watch the movie version is certainly one way to get familiarly with a book. Beside, the movie version usually gives you most of the important plots and characters informations. It may also helps you decide if the book is worth reading it. Reading the original books is completely different. With far more characters and plot details, it allows you appreciate the beauty of the language in the book. As for which is better, it depends on that you need. If you just want to get the story, watch the movie version; for the more complete experience, the book version is definitely better.
