Opened in September 2005, Hong Kong Disneyland is the second Disney Park in Asia. It experienced a difficult time upon its opening. The Park, as well as two themed hotels, was built on Lantau Island.

The Park opened to strong competition in the form of Ocean Park. Hong Kong Disneyland is one of only two parks in Hong Kong, which has become one of the world's leading cities in recent years. It kept Chinese cultural traditions in mind when they built the Park to avoid a cultural backlash (抵制). Designers added to the custom of Feng Shui.

Disney and Hong Kong announced the Park in 1999, and construction began in 2003. The Park had one of the shortest construction periods in Disney history. Disney actually announced that the opening of the Park would be brought forward, from 2006 to September 2005.

The Park attracted 5.2 million visitors in its first year, below the expected 5.6 million. There was a lack of attractions, with Fantasyland opening with just one dark ride. Summer Passes were announced to increase the number of tourists. Autopia, Stitch Encounter and it's a Small World opened between 2006 and 2008 to offer more attractions at the Park.

The number of tourists dropped in 2007 to just over 4 million, so Disney planned a big expansion (扩大) project to attract more tourists and bring the Park back to its normal level. In July 2009, the Legislative Council of Hong Kong passed a three-land expansion of Hong Kong Disneyland, and in 2010, Toy Story Land opened.

These new attractions have certainly paid off, with the Park earning record profit (盈利) in 2013. In that year, over 7 million guests entered the Park.

With enough room for a second Park and the promise of more attractions to come, it seems that there is indeed a great beautiful tomorrow for Hong Kong Disneyland.

The internet isn't always a happy place. But there are groups trying to change that. Kuakuaqun, or “praising group” on Wechat, in which people send out compliments and positive messages, are becoming popular among university students in China.

Praising groups have been founded by students from several universities, such as Fudan University, Communication University of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. People can even buy memberships of such groups on online platforms like Taobao. Once admitted, they make complimentary comments about each other and even ask to be complimented on particular things.

The praising groups come at a time when the mental health of young Chinese is getting attention. As young Chinese seek company and confidence, the praising groups meet a lot of psychological needs. “The group allows me to see the good qualities in myself that I often overlook and look at the bright side of everything. Kindness from strangers can help me feel much better,” Tian Jiayin, 22, told China Daily.

The popularity of chat groups is also a reflection of Chinese culture, reported Global Times. As many young Chinese are raised to be modest, it’s uncommon for them to openly seek and give praise. As a result, they desire compliments as they grow up. “If the kids got more praise from parents and teachers, their desire for praise wouldn't be so strong,” said Dai Ji, a psychologist from Hunan University of Commerce.

But Chen Kan, a psychologist from Fudan University, warned that members of praising groups should be cautious about giving or receiving praise. “The biggest risk is the constant emphasis on the ‘false self’, which makes it harder to see the ‘true self’,” she said.

If you think you have two left feet but would love to be a good dancer then why not try your hand at dancing?

That’s exactly what I did five years ago and I immediately fell in love with dancing. To me, dancing is a magical experience: I’ve become fitter, look younger and feel more confident. I enjoy it so much that I will never give up this healthy pastime.

It’s very sociable as well. You meet people and make new friends while dancing the night away. Haven’t you heard stories about how dancing inspired new romances or rekindled (重燃) old ones? My friends Joe and Rena just had their big day a few weeks ago after they met each other at a Ceroc workshop some three years before.

The word “Ceroc” comes from the French language. Without the complicated footwork, it is easier to pick up by beginners. Another good thing about Ceroc is that while it is a partner dance, you don’t have to bring a dancing partner.

Other popular styles of dancing in the UK include ballroom, belly dancing, lindy hop, salsa, tango and tap dancing, just to name a few.

No matter what types of dancing you do, one thing is for sure: you will become fitter. For office workers like me, dancing is good cardio exercise after a long day sitting in front of the computer screen. It also strengthens your muscles, improves your coordination(协调) and increases your physical confidence.

Few people will end up being queens of the dance floor. The aim is not to win a competition but to enjoy the interaction(交流). As long as you do the right moves, keep the rhythm and most importantly keep an encouraging smile to your dancing partners, you will always be a winner!
