Despite these worries, I came to New Zealand in July 2009. I have found the place and people very nice and supportive. Soon after I arrived, I realized the importance of getting a job for my living expenses.
Determined to do this on my own, I spent a whole day going door to door asking for a job. However, I received little response. This became my routine every day after college for a few weeks.
One afternoon, I walked into a building to ask whether there were any job opportunities. People there were very surprised, and advised me not to continue my job search in that manner. As I was about to leave, a clerk in the building, who had been listening to what the others had said, approached me and asked me to wait outside for a while. Fifteen minutes later, he returned. He asked me about my plans and encouraged me to stay confident. Then he offered to take me to Royal Oak to search for a job.
I was a little surprised but had a good feeling about him. He gave me some suggestions on dressing and speaking. I handed out my resumes and went home feeling very satisfied. The following day, I received a call from a store in Royal Oak offering me a job.
It seems that the world always gives back to you when you need it .And this time,it was a complete stranger who turned out to be a real blessing.

There is an old Chinese saying, “If someone gives you a little drop of water, you should return a spring of water.” That means if someone helps you a bit: you should remember it and thank them gratefully (感激的) in return.
We should live in a world of gratitude(感恩).We should prove it with actions, not just words. We thank people who hurt us, because we learn how to be independent. We thank people who are selfish (自私的), because we learn the importance of being kind. Of course, we should thank people who help us. We should thank people who teach us. We should thank people who care about us.
We thank our parents. They work hard all the time in order to give their sons and daughters a better life. They cook meals for us, they do the chores for us, they always give us food and clothes.
We thank our teachers who give us dreams. They teach us a lot of things but they ask for nothing from us.We are well-educated because of them. There are many people that we should be grateful to in our life. We should find a way to thank them.

My mom said she had something to do after handing the people a few dollars. She sent me inside the restaurant with my dad and my three siblings. But she didn’t come.
Later, I found out she had gone home and practically emptied our cupboards into a few bags. Then, she brought that food over to the car and handed the bags to the family. I wasn’t there when that part happened, but I can only imagine the joy it brought to their faces.
A few days later, when I actually found out about what she had done, I asked her why she helped those people. She told me that they were not lucky. I remember the face of that girl who had asked us for change, she was the same age as me, yet we looked so different.
Here I stood, dressed in almost new clothes, headed to dine in a restaurant and then back home to the bedroom I shared with my younger sister. I remember thinking that the other girl didn’t have any food to eat. and she was heading back to a cold car shared with five other people.
After painting this picture in my mind, I understood why my mom had done what she did. I will never forget what she did that night, and how she taught me one of the best lessons I ever learned.

Americans spend almost four hours a day on their phones.
Take me for example — I blog about travel for a living. I’m pretty much done with trip reports, but I still share my travels on Instagram Stories. During a trip to Turkey last summer, I realized quickly that I wasn't seeing and experiencing things first-hand.
There was one day on my trip when I decided to walk from the Bomonti area to Taksim Square. At first, I had my eyes glued to the phone to navigate(导航) my way. Then I began taking pictures of interesting things and distractedly moving along. Then it hit me: This isn't safe. Also, I'm not taking in all the sights and passing by great shops without looking at anything.
My arms were free to swing(摆动) at my sides and I made eye contact with people who smiled and said hello. I smelled the delicious wet burgers and stopped to grab one.
Keeping our eyes glued to our screens, we’re missing out on the true beauty around us.
A.Vacations are no exception. |
B.We’re too absorbed in our journey. |
C.Travel isn’t just experienced through the eyes. |
D.So I put my phone away for the rest of the way. |
E.I found a lovely scarf and bought it at a nice price |
F.I was viewing everything through my phone’s camera. |
G.People travel to destinations just because they're “Instafamous.” |
