Where in the classroom do you prefer to sit,and why? Scientists have discovered that seating preference not only shows students’ personalities,but has a great influence on their school performance.Generally speaking,students show different attitudes depending on where they sit.Based on the research,scientists have developed a funnel-like(像漏斗的) model of “learning zones(区域)” to see the relationship between seating and active learning.

In this model,the mouth of the funnel(A) is the best position for learning.Students in this front area prove to be the most active learners.They show a greater desire(渴求) for learning,which leads them to focus(集中注意力) better and take a more active part than the rest of the class.Those in the neck of the funnel(B) don’t pay the same close attention,but they ask a lot of questions,partly because of the added confidence they feel from being in a safe zone,with others around them.Less desirable is the area “outside the funnel(C,D),” which refers to the side and the back rows,where students take a less active part in classroom activities and find it hard to focus their attention,falling asleep at times.

Studies about learning zones suggest that a change in traditional seating plans can benefit students.In fact,a growing number of teachers have begun less traditional seating plans,such as “U-Type”.There are no side and back areas,so teachers can expect their students to take part in activities more actively and increase student-teacher interaction(互动).

Capturing a moment in time isn’t just about securing a memory- it can help us appreciate our life more every day.

As a student，my campus has been my whole world. While it may seem limiting，studying with the same classmates and the same teachers in the same classroom every day has given me many opportunities to make great memories. I love the jokes told by my teachers in class，the songs my roommates and I sing together and cheerleaders’ loud cries at basketball games. Even the glow of the sunset with the mixture of purple and vivid red over the playground is mesmerizing.

And that is why I began to record my school life，and I’ve kept this habit for three years up until now. The first attempt, in the form of a diary, fell through as soon as my actual experiences became far more exciting than my words. So I bought a camera, with which I recorded every fascinating moment in my school life. Every weekend I transferred those photos to my phone and posted them on my social media. Without fail, I would find how joyful my school life was and how much progress I made, which in turn instilled(注入) more passion and purpose into the coming weeks.

As I progressed to senior high school, that camera gave way to camcorder(便携式摄像机) More and more videos drove me to learn video editing. Those valuable videos witnessed me joining the school choir(合唱团), training for sports meets, complaining about the burden of studying and having fun in the dormitory. They have become a labor of love and naturally my source of happiness.

When I look back on my diaries, photos and videos during this winter vacation, those fond memories came flooding back. Recording my school life lets me not only capture every precious moment in the course of my growth but also gives me the ability to observe and appreciate my surroundings and create joy in my life. It creates positive impact on my friends, showing them how wonderful life is and how it all depends on how much enthusiasm you show. So imagine how amazed I was when people said they felt youth and vitality through my work!

Remember everybody_else_in_your_year_is_in_the_same_boat, you may not realize it, but they’re just as nervous as you are. Moving to senior high school is an opportunity, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is be polite and learn the new rules.

Teachers are ready to help!

If you’re unsure what to do or are worried about anything then you had better ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they’re experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a “friends system”. If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. They will look out for you and help you if you have any problems or questions.

All change

There are lots of differences between junior high school and senior high school. You’ll have a homework diary or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days, so make sure you get organized. Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different subjects.

If you’ve got an older brother or sister at the school then ask them for advice.

Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally.

Having early nights makes a difference and you’ll find it easier to get up in the morning!
