The morning after an evening struggle to care for my three-year-old daughter, I couldn’t wait to get her to school. I, as a mother, was tired from the hopelessness and her inability to communicate because of her slowed language development.

As I accompanied her into the car, I felt desperate. Nothing was right with our world. She’d been born around the same time when the nation was witnessing the birth of another Great Recession. My job and my house had been victims. Then this happened. My child’s language delay was identified, but doctors struggled to properly help her, I felt like we both needed to be rescued.

I returned that afternoon as disenchanted as when I left. Walking slowly toward the school’s playground gate, I found her preschool teacher racing to greet me.

“You should have seen her today!” His breathy words were supported by excitement. I didn’t interrupt. “See that climber.” He pointed to a wooden piece of playground equipment that looked like a rock wall. I nodded. “Well, every day since she started school, she’s tried and failed to make it to the top.” He took a breath. “And today she did it!”

He expressed his joy just as he’d witnessed her conquering Mount Everest! “She cheered and celebrated! I wish I’d recorded it!” His words comforted me. My daughter had conquered her mountain.

As she ran toward me, I recognized something I hadn’t before. I saw her perseverance. I saw her strength. I saw a hero.

How to Love Your Parents

Even if you think that your parents are mean at times，loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life．You love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part, a source of who you are． Here are some ways to love your parents．

【小题1】 A gentle "good morning" and "I love you" will warm a coldest heart． Remember that they brought you into this world． Without your parents, we might still wander at an unknown corner in an unknown world．

Respect them more and cherish these moments． You can use these moments to learn from them, preparing yourself for when you're off on your own． It's OK to get angry but angry actions don't help you or your parents． Act calmly, cool off, write down your feelings, or talk to a friend．【小题2】

Obey their requests． It will make your attitude better and earn you more respect from them． It may seem like you are going through hell when you don't get what you want or you have to clean． However, you had better remember they are who struggle to keep a roof over your head when it's cold, raining, snowing, or too hot． Understand that parents are human beings and make mistakes．【小题3】

Keep company with them． Do things with your parents together like watching TV, or go somewhere with them． Listen to their old stories and learn from them．【小题4】 And then you will find they are your teachers in one way or another．

Some people simply may not be able to love their parents．【小题5】 Seek help if you are being abused（虐待） in any way． Parents do not have a right to harm you．

This love story began in Winchester, 43 years ago, when Rick was strangled during birth, leaving him brain-damaged and unable to control his arms and legs.

When Rick was 11, he managed to use a computer by touching a switch with the side of his head. He was finally able to communicate. And after a high school classmate was injured in an accident and the school organized a charity run for him, Rick typed, “Dad, 1 want to do that."

How was Dick, a fat man who never ran more than a mile at a time, going to push his son five miles? But, he tried. That day changed Rick's life. "Dad," he typed, “when we were running, it felt like I wasn't disabled anymore!" And that sentence changed Dick's life. He became crazy about giving Rick that feeling as often as he could. He got into such hard-belly shape that he and Rick were ready to try the 1979 Boston Marathon. This year, at ages 65 and 43, Dick and Rick finished their 24th Boston Marathon, in 5,083rd place out of more than 20.000 starters. “NO question about it,” Rick typed. “My dad is the father of the century.”

And Dick got something else out of all this too. Two years ago, he had a mild heart attack during a race. “If you hadn't been in such great shape," one doctor told him, “you probably would have died 15 years ago." So, in a way Dick and Rick saved each other's lives.

They compete in some races every weekend, including the latest Father's Day. That night, Rick bought his dad dinner, but the thing he really wanted to give him was a gift he could never buy. “The thing I'd like most,” Rick typed, “is that my dad sits in the chair and I push him once."
