The Shanyang tunnel (杉阳隧道) of the Darui Railway has been completed recently. This project is good for the opening and 【小题1】 (develop) of Dali and Ruili in Yunnan province. With the tunnel 【小题2】 (finish), the Dali-Baoshan section of the railway is expected to open within this year, 【小题3】 (put) an end to the Baoshan’s status as a place with no rail links.

So far, the Dali-Baoshan section of the Darui Railway 【小题4】 (complete) all the bridge works and 95% of the station building construction. 【小题5】 our surprise, there are 21 tunnels in the Dali-Baoshan section in all.

With 【小题6】 length of 330 kilometers, the Darui Railway is a major project in the nation’s network construction plan. The Shanyang tunnel is the last part of the Darui Railway, 【小题7】 is the toughest part too. The 330-kilometer rail line 【小题8】 (cut) travel time to about three hours and thirty minutes from the current seven hours in the future.

Thanks to the efforts of engineers and workers, the project has been completed 【小题9】 (successful). It is believed that this project is key to the boom of 【小题10】 (west) regions of China.

Jam, whatever it is made of , is always 【小题1】 (amaze). However, a kind of jam, 【小题2】 is made of bicycles and cars, always drives people crazy. Do you know what it is? It is traffic jam.

Two years ago, I 【小题3】 (experience) a traffic jam when leaving The Yellowstone National Park. At first, I felt easy and enjoyed 【小题4】 view from the windows of our bus. Rocks ran away, and plants became green silk. But 【小题5】 (sudden)I realized they didn’t move any more. There must be something terrible in front of us. The bus driver stopped the bus, and asked us 【小题6】 (wait) for a moment. How come? After a while, he told us that it was a traffic jam. All right, it was okay 【小题7】 I could play the mobile phone.

But soon I ran out of my 【小题8】 (patient). I looked around and found nothing changed. What’s 【小题9】 (bad), my stomach was empty. It’s quite funny that you 【小题10】 (trap) in the jam but you could eat any jam.

Hours later, the bus finally moved. I will never forget this experience.

The people of Shenlongwan spent 15 years 【小题1】 (carve) through rocks to connect their home to the world and escape being poor.

Benefiting 【小题2】 a very fine climate, Shenlongwan has always been famous for its pears, but getting their harvest to market used to be a serious challenge. That’s because to reach the 【小题3】 (near) city, they had to either walk through eight towns in three different provinces, 【小题4】risk their lives climbing dangerous narrow mountain paths.

“We needed a road greatly,’’ said Duan Jianlin, 【小题5】 elderly Shenlongwan native who participated in the【小题6】(construct). “If we couldn’t finish building it in one year, we would try two years.”

The guesses proved 【小题7】 (extreme) optimistic, as this wasn’t just any road. Shenlongwan 【小题8】 (surround) by mountains, so the villagers had to dig through hard rocks. Armed with simple tools like hammers, carving through mountains proved to be too difficult.

The road 【小题9】 (build) by the people of Shenlongwan is only 1,526 meters long, but it took them no less than 15 years to complete. Work 【小题10】(begin) in 1985 and only ended in 2000.

The short but invaluable road opened the door to the outside world. Not only could they sell the fruits faster, but the village’s natural beauty started attracting tourists as well. Before the mountain-carved road became successful, the average income was only 680 yuan, while today it reaches 12,000 yuan.
