Emily Bhatnagar is a shy girl who has always loved reading. She says, “The books sort of became my best friends when I didn’t have one.”

When Bhatnagar was 16, her father was diagnosed (诊断) with cancer. The news was________for the family. Books became an even bigger ________, and she started thinking about families in similar situations. When her father recovered, she ________a plan to help others. “The idea came from not just great thanks that the doctors were able to ________such a miracle (奇迹),”she said, “but also a little of ________ that there were kids who were ________ the same battle.”

Bhatnagar started a ________ in her hometown. The goal was to collect books and give them to kids being ________ for cancer in local hospitals. Since the start of the book drive, which she called For Love & Buttercup, Bhatnagar has ________ more than 10,000 books.

Bhatnagar had no idea how much ________ her work would get. She started by posting on social media, asking people in her area to donate. “I was expecting maybe two or three ________ from neighbors,” she said. But it ended up blowing up, ________ when news stations began reporting it. “The public response has been super great,” her father said.

Bhatnagar continues to run the book drive, with a little help from her parents. She hopes to expand the project to ________ more kids one day. The memory of the first time she visited those children who’d ________ her books sticks with her. “It was the best ________ of my life,” she said. “I realized I wanted to do this type of work forever.”

I was walking around in a Big Bazar store doing a shopping, when I saw a Cashier talking to a boy who________ have been more than 5 or 6 years old. The Cashier said, “I’m sorry, but you don’t have enough money to buy this_______.”  Then the little boy turned________ me and asked, “Uncle, are you sure I don’t have enough money?”

I counted his cash and replied, “You know that you don’t have enough money to buy the doll, my dear.” The little boy was still ________ the doll in his hand.________, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to.  “It’s the doll _______my sister loved most and wanted so much. I wanted to _______her for her birthday.” His eyes were so _______while saying this.

“My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too,” My heart nearly _______. The little boy ______ at me and said, “I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the ________ .” Then he showed me a very nice photo of him,   _____he was laughing.

Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very ______. I quickly reached for my_________and said to the boy. “Suppose we check again, just ______ you do have enough money for the doll?” He said, “OK, I hope I do have enough.” I added some of my money to his, without him   _____and we started to count it.  There was enough for the doll and ______ some spare money.

The little boy said, “Thank you God for giving me______ money!” Then he looked at me and added, “I asked last night ______ I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to ______.

When our youngest son was little, his favorite toys were “happy meal toys”. We collected them when we ______ at the different fast-food restaurants. He ______ his bookshelves with them. Often I would carefully remove them out of his hands when he ______.

As he got older, he felt ______ when asking for the children’s meal, so I would ______ the happy meal and give him the toys for his collection. ______ he finally gave up the idea of ______ happy meal toys, I continued to pass them on to his children.

When I visited them, I hid the toys in different parts of my huge ______ so that each day when I was there, they were allowed to ______ one toy to play with. These little toys seem to be a bigger ______ than any other big or expensive gift that I could bring them.

Without really trying, I guess I created a little ______ between us. They knew they could always find a happy meal toy stuck ______ in their Nana’s luggage (行李).

Whether it is a happy meal toy, the smell of cookies, or giving a book to a child, children need a ______ with their families.

Today, families are often spread across the country or even the globe. Keeping long-distance family ties requires some ______ but is well worth it.
