My husband and I have experienced a lot along our travels. Either of us can remember every detail of the trip. The most impressive moment that shortly stands out to me is when Doug and I took the public bus from Turtle Bay Resort to Kualoa Ranch in Oahu, Hawaii. We had plans of making some short videos throughout Ka'a'awa Valley where various scenes of Jurassic Park were filmed. I was so excited about this spectacular adventure. As we were catching our flight out of Honolulu later that evening, we didn't have much time to spare. We were on a quite strict schedule. Unfortunately, we ended up lost.

When we got off the bus at a small neighborhood along the single highway, we realized something was wrong. We checked our map and concluded that we exited the bus many stops too soon. Worse still, it began to rain. We wandered around looking for any residents outdoors to ask for directions. The bus wouldn't make its rounds back to our current stop for quite some time. We could either walk several miles to Ka'a'awa Valley and have no time to make some short videos or wait for the bus to return and still have no time to catch our flight to go on with our planned adventure. Our afternoon was looking awful.

As we angered and complained in front of a local's home, a black SUV pulled up. It turned into the driveway where we had been resting. Doug and I waved, smiled and apologized to the driver for intruding (闯入). I further explained how we were lost and told her of our plans to go to Kualoa Ranch. However, she didn't say anything as she led her dogs out of the car and into her house.

When she came back outside, she instructed us to get into her car.

We exchanged stories of our homes and life.

As a child, I grew up in a modest neighborhood where access to books was limited. My parents installed in me a love for reading, and I longed for more knowledge. That’s when Mrs. Henderson, a retired teacher with a passion for books, decided to establish a little library in our community.

The library was a small wooden structure, almost like a dollhouse, situated at the end of our street. Mrs. Henderson filled it with a variety of books, from children’s stories to classics and non-fiction. The library was free for anyone in the neighborhood to use, and it quickly became a hub for the curious minds of our community, myself included.

I vividly remember the first time I stepped into that tiny library. The shelves were packed with books of all kinds. I felt like I had entered a treasure trove. I started borrowing books regularly, and the more I read, the more I thirsted for knowledge.

It wasn’t just the books that made this library special; it was Mrs. Henderson herself. She would spend hours talking to each child, helping them choose books that matched their interests. She made learning fun and accessible, and she inspired us to dream big.

A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign advertising the pups and set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a pull on his coat. He looked down into the eyes of a little boy.

“Mister,” he said, “I want to buy one of your puppies.”

“Well,” said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat of the back of his neck, “These puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money.”

The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer. “I’ve got 89 cents. Is that enough at least to take a look?”

“Sure,” said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle. “Here, Dolly!” he called.

Out from the doghouse and down the ramp(坡道) ran Dolly followed by four little balls of fur. The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight. As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse.

Slowly another little fur ball appeared, this one noticeably smaller. Down the ramp it slid. Then the little pup began awkwardly wobbling(蹒跚) toward the others, doing its best to catch up. “I want that one,” the little boy said, quickly pointing to the pup.

The farmer knelt down at the boy’s side and said, “Son, you don’t want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs would.”

Paragraph 1: With that the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his trousers.
