Having dragged everything I owned halfway across the country, I reached my university a complete fresher.
The first point I’d like to make is that you’re in charge of your degree. Outside of your scheduled lectures, you’re the one who determines whether to carry on studying or to spend the rest of your day relaxing.

Remember going to university isn’t just about studying, but you have to learn to balance your work and life. Every university has sports teams, societies and voluntary activities to get involved with. Every university has a Students’ Union, where your voice comes in.
Bothersome as your early university life may be, it’ll be incredible once you find your feet.

Several factors can influence your first impression of someone, including their physical features, voice and speech, surrounding environment, etc. It takes time to get to know personal characteristics that really convey (传达) someone’s nature.
Stay conscious (有意识的) of body language
Body language can convey quite a bit about how you feel in a given situation. A few tips to consider: open up your posture (姿势); make some eye contact; and listen intently.
Show your interest
Expressing interest in what someone has to say can help boost your chances of making a good impression. Try a thoughtful comment that keeps the conversation moving and makes it clear that you’ve been paying attention.
Dress for the occasion
Previous research suggests that body language plays more of a part in first impressions than clothing. But your personal style can play a role, too. There’s nothing wrong with expressing yourself through your clothing. Just know that certain situations do call for a slightly more formal look.
Make small talk
While a first impression can set the tone (基调) for future interactions, it’s also worth keeping in mind that first impressions are largely unconscious. Just approach every new meeting with kindness, compassion, and a willingness to grow.

One of the biggest reasons friends lie is simply to avoid hurting your feelings. Questions like, “Do you think I can sing?” might lead to a little white lie or an avoidance of telling the truth. Some people don’t understand the difference between being gently honest with a friend and being so straightforward that you leave a verbal (言语的) wound.

We support others by our words and actions, while receiving others’ support and love back. Expressing heartfelt feelings allows us to have no regrets for whatever tomorrow may bring.
