Chengdu is an amazing place blessed with dozens of new millionaires, Asia’s biggest building, and fancy new hotels. But for tourists like me, pandas are its top 【小题1】 (appealing).

So it was a great honour to be invited backstage at the not-for-profit Panda Base, 【小题2】 ticket money helps pay for research. I was permitted to get up close to these cute animals at the 600-acre centre. From tomorrow, I will be their UK ambassador. The title will be 【小题3】 (official) given to me at a ceremony in London. But my connection with pandas goes back 【小题4】my days on a TV show in the mid-1980s, when I was the first Western TV reporter permitted 【小题5】(film) a special unit caring for pandas rescued from 【小题6】(starve) in the wild. My ambassadorial duties will include 【小题7】(introduce) British visitors to the 120-plus pandas at Chengdu and others at a research centre in the misty mountains of Bifengxia.

On my recent visit, I help a lively three-month-old twin that had been rejected by 【小题8】 mother. The nursery team switches him every few 【小题9】(day) with his sister so that while one is being bottle-fed, 【小题10】 other is with mum—— she never suspects.

Many years ago, I went sightseeing in London. While there, I visited the Underground. Like most tourists, I was very interested in it as it is the 【小题1】 (old) system in the world. It is also very complex. I was told that the first part of the underground system opened in 1863, and 【小题2】 took people from the boundary of London to the city center. The underground passages were very narrow 【小题3】 (compare) to the last line that was constructed in 1977. When 【小题4】 (carriage) first ran in these passages, there was lots 【小题5】 smoke and noise. I think it must have been horrible and damp down there! Another problem was that there were a dozen different lines, 【小题6】 were not linked. This 【小题7】 (make) the system not user-friendly, but now the different lines have been joined. The union of the different lines makes traveling on the London Underground much more 【小题8】 (convenience). I bought a ticket at a discount and rode the underground three times. It was good for me 【小题9】 (have) the experience. Another interesting thing was that the passages were used for all sorts of things during war such as bomb shelters, and an anti-aircraft center. It’s 【小题10】 (true) amazing.

After graduation from college, I started to sell. Soon I discovered that the 【小题1】(worry) expression I had been wearing since childhood meant sure 【小题2】 (fail). I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to change that expression on my face left by the【小题3】(year) of hardship. It called for a complete change in my view on life.Here is the method I tried.

Each morning during a fifteen minute bath, I 【小题4】(determine) to develop a big happy smile. I found 【小题5】, however, that it couldn't be a forced smile developed just for the purpose of 【小题6】(put) dollars in my pocket. It had to be an honest-to-goodness smile from down deep inside, an outward expression of happiness from within! Let's see【小题7】starting off with a good fifteen-minute workout of the smile muscles helped me during the day. Before entering 【小题8】office I would think of the many things I had to be thankful for, work up a big smile and then enter.Seldom did it fail【小题9】(get) the same smile in return from the person I met. I also found that it 【小题10】 (great)pleased people when I passed them on the street to give them a cheerful smile.
