Most people who ran the marathon last month spent days before resting up and days after recovering. But not Jacky Hunt-Broersma. In total, she ran 104 marathons in 104 days. If it’s confirmed by Guinness World Records, that would be a new world record. And she did it all with one leg and a prosthesis (假肢).

“Someone able-bodied had done it previously. I wanted to see if I could do it on a prosthetic leg and see what would happen,” she said. “I thought it would be a great way to inspire others to push their limits because I truly believe that we’re stronger than what we think. And I’ve been so pleasantly surprised that my body’s held up, everything’s held up and I’ve made it to 104.”

She actually did not pick up the sport until after she lost the lower part of her left leg in 2001 to a type of cancer called Ewing sarcoma. Runners using a prosthetic leg can’t use a regular one. They need a running blade (刀锋式跑步义肢). Hunt-Broersma has two, but she was only able to run with one because of the swelling she experienced in her left leg that made it impossible to connect to the other blade. But even with the pain that occurred, she has been able to put up with it and continued.

All together, Hunt-Broersma ran over 4,385 kilometers. During that time she’s had a lot of time to think and has learned a few things about herself. “It’s taught me how strong one can be and how important absolute determination is. If you’re mentally strong, you can do anything,” she said. “And our bodies are just amazing. . . This whole journey was impressive and super hard, but it’s told me how strong I can be as a person and how far I can push myself.”

Photographer Lindsey Villatoro gave one family the most beautiful gif. She organized a fake wedding ceremony so that a terminal(不治的)ill father could walk his Il-year-old daughter down the aisle.

Jim Zetz, 62, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and knew that he wouldn't be around for all the big moments in his daughter Josie's life. So when Villatoro heard about the family's heartbreaking story, she decided to do something special for them.

"One day you'll wake up and realize you're given the opportunity to change someone's life for the better, "Villatoro wrote in the description of the wedding video. "If you get an idea, don't think twice and run with it. It was an honour doing this for them. "

Villatoro first met Zetz and his family when she was invited to take one of their final family photos together. When Zetz's wife mentioned that Josie was upset that her father wouldn't be around for "memories down the line", Villatoro decided to help out.

Amazingly, the photographer managed to organize a mini-wedding in the family's backyard within 72 hours! With the help of financial contributions from the local community, she gathered a wedding cake, a dress, flowers, and make-up for the little girl. Friends, family, and even strangers attended the event to show their support.

"Your dad may not live to see you get married, but he is here to walk you down the aisle today, "Gary Galbraith, the pastor(牧师), said in the ceremony. "The daddy and daughter relationship is one of the most special relationships in life. "

At the ceremony Zetz placed a ring on Josie's finger as the pastor called them "daddy and daughter". Josie's mini-wedding coincided(同时发生)with her 11th birthday. Her mother said, "I knew it would be her last birthday with her dad. If I were Josie, this would be the best gif anyone could give. "

"It was a beautiful ceremony, "the neighbour Jennifer Stout said. "It's sad to think of someone so young losing her dad but at least she will have a memory of this event. "

In the United States, farmers who are trying to earn money find the situation difficult to deal with. The United States Department of Agriculture found that more than half of the small farms in California do not make money. But the United Nations reported at least one third of the food is wasted by not selling it out in time.

One California farm family is using social media to change the situation and reduce wasted food. Nick Papadopoulos is the manager of Bloomfield Farms in Sonoma County. He was sad and worried to watch his employees returning from some weekend farmers’ markets with top quality unsold products.

Mr. Papadopoulos said he would find boxes of leaf greens and carrots left in a storehouse. The vegetables would go bad before the next market day. One night, he began thinking about the matter of wasted food when he didn’t know how to deal with 32 cases of broccoli (西兰花). Usually he would give it to chickens and use the rest to make fertilizer (肥料). He thought he shouldn’t let the farm products go to waste.

Then his daughter showed him a book she bought online. Suddenly it hit him that he could offer the food at a low price by advertising it on the farm’s Facebook page on Sunday nights. The deals were open to anyone using the social media website. In the first week, some neighbors came to his home to buy the vegetables. Another week, the buyers were a group of friends. And now many people wait to buy his cheap products.

After his success, Mr. Papadopoulos helped to set up a website called cropmobster. com, which is a place where people deal with food production at low prices, feeding the hungry. Since March, the website has stopped more than 20, 000 kilograms of food from going to waste.

Around July I had made a purchase from a website in the US. My shipment was sent out the very next day, and I expected the package to arrive at my doorstep within 5 to 7 days like before. Two weeks had passed, and I had not received my package. I decided to track it, and to my shock, the courier (快递公司) actually sent my package to a different country!

I didn't know what to do, so I emailed the courier, who told me I had to email the company from which I had made the purchase. Instead of helping me, the company redirected me to the courier. Rather than getting mad at this entire mess, I tried to calm down by focusing on the good things, those like the fact that I even had the money to make the purchase and that the company shipped out the package rather quickly. I also imagined myself receiving the package, which made me happier.

Weeks turning into months, there was still no sign of my package. As I signed up for updates, I was horrified when I woke up one day in September to see that my package had been returned to the US. Instead of getting depressed, I contacted the company to inform them about the shipment and sought advice about what to do next as I really wanted the items which were a limited edition. The customer service told me that they could only offer a full refund (退款) as the items were already sold out. Even though I accepted and was very pleased, there was still a part of me that was slightly disappointed.

Around the end of November, I received a text update that my package has cleared customs in the UK but I thought it had been returned to the company. Yesterday, my package arrived at my doorstep!

While it did take many months for the package to reach me, I felt incredibly grateful as I got what wanted! And for free! This showed me that the universe works in mysterious ways that we can never really understand but it is not our job to worry about how things will unfold.
