Childcare in Cape Town
About the Program
Volunteers work about 5 hours a day in a public kindergarten or NGO-run after-school center for babies to 6-year-olds from some of Cape Town’s poorest townships. Volunteers work with the local teachers to introduce the children to basic concepts in topics like culture, geography, math and writing. They also promote good manners and behavior and the children’s positive development by dancing, making art and playing games or doing sports. Local teachers also rely on the volunteers to help provide individualized attention to children falling behind, and to supervise during recreation time.
