A Guide to the University

The TWU Cafeteria is open 7am to 8pm. It serves snacks(小吃), drinks, ice cream bars and meals. You can pay with cash or your ID cards. You can add meal money to your ID cards at the Front Desk. Even if you do not buy your food in the cafeteria, you can use the tables to eat your lunch, to have meetings and to study.

If you are on campus in the evening or late at night, you can buy snacks, fast food, and drinks in the Lower Café located in the bottom level of the Gouglas Centre. This area is often used for entertainment such as concerts, games or TV watching.

The Globe, located in the bottom level of McMillan Hall, is available(可获得的) for relaxing, studying, cooking, and eating. Monthly activities are held here for all international students. Hours are 10 am to 10 pm, closed on Sundays.

Located on the top floor of Douglas Hall, the Wellness Centre is committed to physical, mental and social health. A doctor or a nurse is available if you have health questions or need immediate medical help or personal advice. The cost of this is included in your medical insurance. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 pm.

All students have access to (接近，可以使用) the Writing Centre on the upper floor of Douglas Hall. Here, qualified volunteers will work with you on written work, grammar, vocabulary, and other academic skills. You can sign up for an appointment on the sign-up sheet outside the door: two 30–minute appointments per week maximum. This service is free.

The TWU Express is a shuttle(班车) service. The shuttle transports students between campus and the shopping centre, leaving from the Mattson Centre. Operation hours are between 9 am and 3 pm, Saturdays only. Round trip fare is $1.

A small watchmaker in Switzerland in 1922 designed the first automatic watch to show the day，month，and date. Only seven of these splendid watches were ever made and these watches were almost lost to history. The watchmaker has made the movement of the watch much more modern with an automatic rotor(上弦装置)so that the watch never needs to be wound by hand. The watch comes in a very beautiful case with a crocodile design on it. To get a watch in such a perfect design means getting a chance to know a piece of watch making history and to wear such a watch will show your personal taste and social position.

You can get the watch either in person or by mail at an affordable price. You will also receive good service from the watch seller. If you are not satisfied with the watch after you get it，you may simply return it within 30 days. Don’t miss the chance to realize your dream.

International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is the biggest ticketed cultural event in The Netherlands. It aims to offer some good worldwide independent, innovative cinema and visual arts. One can visit cinema-related exhibitions and events, go to film screenings, or take part in the extensive professional programme. To make all of this happen, IFFR relies on the support of close to a 1000 devoted volunteers every year. Want to be part of the team? You can read all about our volunteer opportunities below.

You can sign up to volunteer by filling in the online registration form. If you have volunteered with us before, you will receive an email invitation to re-apply for the upcoming edition. As soon as we have more information on any openings for this year, we’ll get in touch with you to schedule a training meeting.

In order to volunteer at IFFR, you’ll need to:

Be 18 years or over

Have a good understanding of either the Dutch or English language

Have an EU passport or Dutch residence permit

Be available for a minimum of 28 hours during the festival period

The majority of your shifts will be during the festival itself. However, depending on the position you’ll fill, there might be additional shifts scheduled before the festival or after.

We expect all volunteers to make their own arrangements in terms of travel and accommodation. Unfortunately we’re not able to cover any expenses at this point.

We’d like to ask volunteers to sign up in the spirit of supporting the festival. Now, more than ever, we’ll need your help in carrying out the vision of IFFR and in providing a platform for stories and voices from all over the world.
