THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION, WASHINGTON DC, USA

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 19 museums and the National Zoo. The Institution was founded in 1846 with funds from the Englishman James Smithson (1765-1829) according to his wishes “under the name of the Smithsonian Institution, an establishment for the increase of knowledge.”

Petrified Forest National Park

Wetherill Mesa

Wetherill Mesa will have an extended season this year (through mid-October), giving cyclists ample time to enjoy new access to the park’s six -mile Long House Loop, a paved path formerly used for tram service, and the backcountry routes on the park’s most popular hike. Naturally, plans are in the works to open an on-site bike rental operation within the year.
