On a foggy day, I was listening to the radio on my drive when suddenly something caught my eye out the driver’s side window. I turned to look but it wasn’t clear because of the thick fog. Then I didn’t know how long I was knocked out.

It didn’t take me long to realize I couldn’t move either arm and my face was bleeding heavily. Over the next few days in the hospital, I began to get a clearer picture of what had happened. A local high school student, rushing to class, had crossed the center line and hit me head-on. I heard through friends of mine who knew his family that he was very, very upset by what had happened. I felt bad that he had such a burden to bear at such a young age.

Fourteen months after the accident. I was grocery shopping when a woman I didn’t know approached me and asked if I was Suzanne. She introduced herself, and I realized it was the young man’s mother. I appreciated learning how he was doing. He avoided severe injury but needed advice to help with the emotional trauma (创伤) of causing the accident. I could certainly understand the difficulty of getting back behind the wheel of a car. Secretly, I wished I could talk to him myself.

Seven months later, it was time for my daughter’s Christmas band concert at the high school. The first adult I recognized upon entering the auditorium was the mother who approached me in the grocery store. I wondered why she was there. One young man in a white hoodie and ball cap ran up. Suddenly, I realized that it was him, the driver, as he resembled that mother.

I edged my way through the crowd. “Hi, I’m Suzanne,” I greeted. “I just wanted to say that I’m okay, and I was never mad at you. I know this was hard on you.” He apparently knew who I was. “You do?” came a slightly muffled (模糊不清的) answer. “I’m really okay,” I added, patting him on the shoulder and feeling like I was the only person who could let him forgive himself. I was the only person who could give him that gift if he could see me and hear from me that all was well.

There have been several incidents at some events in recent years where people died because of stampedes (踩踏). 【小题1】 Indeed, it’s a frightening situation to be in and circumstances may make it impossible to escape. But there are several strategies that could help you avoid a potentially deadly outcome.

If the crowd is moving in one direction, it’s best to go with the flow. 【小题3】 If the group becomes too tightly packed, you could run out of air for choking.

Justin Bieber may have millions of fans worldwide, but Russia’s bears don’t appear to admire the pop singer’s music --- which proved fortunate for one lucky fisherman.
Igor Vorozhbitsyn had his life saved by a Justin Bieber ringtone, when his mobile phone went off during a dangerous attack by a brown bear.
The 42-year-old was attacked as he was walking to a favourite fishing spot in northern Russia’s Yakutia Republic and firmly believed that he was going to be killed.
Wildlife experts believe the ringtone must have frightened the bear into stopping its attack.
‘Sometimes a sharp shock can stop an angry bear in its attack and that ringtone would be a very unexpected sound for a bear,’ explained one.
Mr Vorozhbitsyn suffered from cuts and severe wounds and was rescued when he was found by other fishermen after using the phone to call for help.
Mr Vorozhbitsyn ---now recovering from his wounds---explained: ‘I had parked my car and was walking towards the spot I’d marked out when there was a tremendous impact on my back and the bear was on top of me.’
‘I couldn’t believe my luck when the phone went off and it run away.’
‘I know that sort of ringtone isn’t to everyone’s taste but my granddaughter loaded it onto my phone for a joke,’ he added.
Adult brown bears can weigh as much as 600kg and have been known to kill wolves and even Siberian tigers.
Finally, this is a proof that Justin Bieber is unbearable

Melissa Brunning of Perth, Australia, was on a ship in Dugong Bay on Australia’s coast, when four nurse sharks swan close to the back of the ship. Several of Brunning’s partners dropped fish in the water near the sharks, one of which measured almost 2 meters in length. However, when it was Brunning’s turn, she tried to feed the shark directly by hand. As the shark took hold of the food, its jaws closed on her finger, and it pulled her into the water—a terrifying moment that one of her friends caught on video. We can see from the video that Brunning was bending towards the water, food in hand, as a nurse shark swam by. As it came nearer, she put her hand down into the water next to its head and then screamed as the shark bit at her finger and pulled her in. Her friends immediately dived into the water to save her. But after the shark set Brunning‘s finger free, she found that her finger was still attached to her hand, though severely hurt. Because the location where she was on holiday was so distant, she didn’t look for treatment until nearly two weeks later, by which time her finger was badly infected.

The accident was unquestionably annoying, but labeling it a “shark attack” was misleading, as Brunning put her hand into the shark‘s mouth voluntarily; the animal simply reacted as it normally would in the presence of food. At least Brunning admitted her responsibility for the incident. It was entirely her fault and the shark was blameless.

Brunning said her future interactions with marine wildlife would be better informed thanks to her annoying experience, as she wanted to “respect marine life, but just leave them alone”.

【小题3】Who is to blame for the incident according to the author?
A.The food.B.Brunning.C.The shark.D.Brunning’s partners.
【小题4】What’s the best title for the text?
A.A story of a careless womanB.Ways of handling an emergency
